Bleecker nets winner in second overtime

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Danielle Bleecker (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon) scored off a free kick during the second overtime to give Fredonia State a 1-0 SUNYAC home win over Oswego.

Following an Oswego foul about 20 yards out, freshman midfielder Angela Picardo (Hilton/Hilton) took a free kick and volleyed the ball over the heads of her teammates and the Oswego line of defense. Bleecker and senior forward Jamie Pricola (Brockport/Brockport) got to the ball almost simutaneously, with Bleecker winning the skirmish and chipping a shot off an Oswego player and into the net.

The goal came with 4:45 left in the second overtime and enabled the Blue Devils to improve to 6-4-2 overall, 3-2-0 in the SUNYAC.

The loss dropped the Oswego to 5-5-0, 3-2-0 in the conference.

Each team had eight shots in the tightly played game. Fredonia State freshman goalkeeper Becky Scroger (Spencerport/Spencerport) earned her third shutout of the season by making four saves. Oswego's Ashlee Distin (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) was called on to stop only one shot.

Offensively, the Lakers were led by senior forward Maureen Kasparek (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley), who took five shots. Kasparek scored the winning goal Friday in Oswego's 2-1 double-overtime win at Buffalo State.

The Lakers best scoring chance came when a shot rang off the goal post during the first half.

Picardo took two shots for the Blue Devils, who return home next weekend for games Oct. 7 vs. Plattsburgh and Oct. 8 vs. Potsdam.
