Blue Devils, Cardinals play scoreless tie

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State junior goalkeeper Becky Scroger (Spencerport) made nine saves to complete a 0-0 SUNYAC tie Friday with Plattsburgh.

The tie left the Blue Devils are 5-6-3 overall, 2-3-3 and in ninth place in the SUNYAC -- three points out of the sixth and final playoff spot. They will look to move up Saturday when they face Potsdam at home beginning at 1 p.m.

The shutout was Scroger's fifth of the season and lowered her season goals-against average to 0.73. In addition, she has stopped 86.8 percent of opponents' shots on goal.

At the other end, Plattsburgh junior Kathryn Lind (Garden City) stopped five shots.

Neither team mounted any sustained scoring threats and neither keeper was forced to make a spectacular save over 110 minutes of play. The Cardinals (10-2-1, 5-2-1 SUNYAC) were coming off a stunning 4-0 win over nationally ranked Oneonta.

Fredonia State won the shootout tiebreaker for playoff-seeding purposes, 5-4.
