Devils outlast Bengals in 2OTs

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Lauren Heilweil (Binghamton/Chenango Foprks) scored in the 104th minute as Fredonia State defeated Buffalo State, 2-1, in double overtime at University Stadium.

Heilweil's shot from inside the box trickled into the lower left corner following a cross from the right wing by junior Jackie Borcyk (Rochester/Greece Odyssey). A long through pass by senior Danielle Bleecker (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) set up the scoring play.

The win kept the Blue Devils (7-6-3, 4-3-3 SUNYAC) in the hunt for the sixth and final playoff spot into the SUNYAC Tournament. They close out their SUNYAC schedule with a home game Saturday vs. Brockport.

The Bengals (6-10-0, 4-6-0 SUNYAC) took a 1-0 lead at 22:21 when senior Kelsie Moran (Albany) deflected a shot off Fredonia State goaltender Becky Scroger (Spencerport). It was Moran's seventh goal of the season, with senior Katie Lyons (Williamsville/Williamsville North) earning an assist.

The Blue Devils evened the score, 1-1, at 25:38 when Bleecker headed in a corner kick by sophomore Gwen Curtis (Rocheseter/Greece Arcadia). It was Bleecker's team-leading seventh goal of the season.

The Blue Devils had a 21-13 advantage in shots and an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks. Scoger made four saves while sophomore Meghan Jarrell (Hamburg) had six shots in the Buffalo State net.
