The Blue Devils (7-7-3, 4-4-3 SUNYAC) would have earned either the No. 5 or No. 6 seed by winning, and still could have qualified with a loss, but needed Geneseo to lose its game at Buffalo State. Instead, the Blue Knights emerged as 2-0 winners. Despite a 18-12 advantage in shots, Fredonia State could have put a ball behind Brockport junior goalkeeper Liz Durfee (Williamson) while the Golden Eagles (13-2-1, 8-2-1 SUNYAC) converted one of their few scoring chances. Sophomore midfielder Nicole Gibaud (Rochester/Greece Arcadia) gained control of a free ball in the midfield and slid a pass forward to senior forward Michelle Cella (Oakdale/Connetquot) in the 62nd minute. Cella booted a low shot past Fredonia State goalkeeper Becky Scroger (Spencerport) for the only goal, Cella's 11th of the season. Before the game, senior midfielder Danielle Bleecker (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) was honored upon playing her final regular-season home game. She and her teammates will close out the regular season on the road next Saturday at Oberlin.
