Blue Devils, RIT play scoreless tie

FREDONIA , N.Y. -- Fredonia State and Rochester Institute of Technology closed out their respective regular seasons Saturday with a scoreless tie at Steele Hall Field.

Fredonia State freshman goalkeeper Becky Scroger (Spencerport/Spencerport) made seven saves to earn her seventh shutout of the season. She have played every minute in goal this fall for the Blue Devils (9-5-4).

RIT freshman goalkeeper Ashley Conti (Canfield, Ohio) also was credited with seven saves.

While the Tigers (5-9-2) are hopeful for a berth in the NYSWCAA Tournament next week, the Blue Devils are already post-season bound. They will play host to Plattsburgh at 1 p.m. Monday in the first round of the SUNYAC Tournament.

Six seniors were recognized Saturday as having played their final regular-season home game: midfielder Anita Salinas (Rochester/Greece Athena), forward Jessica Weiser (Rochester/Greece Athena), midfielder Erin Schurr (Hamburg/Hamburg), forward-midfielder Amy Wenzel (Elma/Iroquois), forward Danielle Rawcliffe (Rochester/Irondequoit), and forward Jamie Pricola (Brockport/Brockport).

Weiser also was cited for becoming the all-time leading scorer at Fredonia State earlier in the season. She has accumulated 62 points, including a school-record 29 goals, in 61 games as a Blue Devil.
