Devils to meet Rochester in ECAC tournament

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State accepted an invitation Monday to the ECAC Upstate New York Tournament and will meet University of Rochester at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Rochester.

The Blue Devils, 7-2-2 in their last 11 games (8-7-3 overall), have been idle since defeating Oberlin, 1-0, Oct. 27 at Oberlin. They declared for the ECAC tournament and waited until Monday to receive the invitation.

In Rochester, the Blue Devils will be facing a team they have yet to defeat in five previous meetings, The Yellowjackets (10-5-3) are 5-0-2 this season at home. Their goaltenders have recorded 11 shutouts in 18 games.

The eight-team tournament concludes with semifinals and a championship game during the upcoming weekend.

NOTES: Post-season SUNYAC awards resulted in a Fredonia State first. Senior defender Danielle Bleecker (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) became the first women's soccer player in program history to make All SUNYAC four straight years -- the last three as a First Team choice. She is also a two-time NCAA all-region player. In addition to anchoring a solid defense, Bleecker also led the team in scoring with 19 points (7 goals, 5 assists) ... Joining Bleecker as First Team All SUNYAC was junior goalkeeper Becky Scroger (Spencerport), already the school record-holder with 19 career shutouts. It was Scroger's third All SUNYAC selection, her first as a First Teamer ... Sophomore forward Lauren Heilweil (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) was a Second Team All SUNYAC choice. ----
