Fredonia State accepts ECAC bid

FREDONIA , N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's soccer season will continue this week when the Blue Devils face New Paltz in the first round of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Upstate Tournament.

The Blue Devils (10-6-4) choose to travel to New Paltz -- where they were 2-1 winners Sept. 16 in a SUNYAC regular-season game -- for their ECAC game 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Fredonia State is the No. 4 seed, New Paltz the No. 5.

No. 6 seed Medaille will play No. 3 Geneseo in the other first-round game, while No. 1 seed Nazareth will play host to the semifinals Saturday and the championship game Sunday.

Utica College is the No. 2 seed in the six-team bracket.

Fredonia State's only previous appearance in the ECAC Tournament came in 1994. The team has also appeared in the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament three times and the SUNYAC Tournament twice, including this last week. The Blue Devils defeated Plattsburgh, 2-1, in overtime before falling to eventual SUNYAC champ Oneonta, 4-0.
