Late goal lifts Devils in lidlifter

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A goal by Danielle Bleecker (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon) in the 87th minute broke a scoreless tie and earned Fredonia State a 1-0 season-opening win over NAIA school Trevecca Nazarene.

The game-winning play began when freshman Christa Morgante (East Amherst/Williamsville East) won a ball in the midfield and made a quick counter into the offensive zone. She laid off the ball to Bleecker, who touched the ball once before blasting a 30-footer into the side netting. Time of the goal was 86:15.

It was the eighth career goal for Bleecker, a senior defender and three-time All SUNYAC selection. It was also the 14th career shutout for junior Becky Scroger (Spencerport), one short of the school record held by Brianna Falvey. Falvey set the mark over four seasons

The Blue Devils return to action Saturday (4 p.m. EDT) against Sewanee, Tenn.
