Devils rally to tie Geneseo

GENESEO, N.Y. -- Lauren Heilweil (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) scored in the 65th minute Saturday as Fredonia State tied Geneseo, 1-1, in SUNYAC women's soccer.

Heilweil, a sophomore, scored her first goal of the season at 64:41. Freshman goalkeeper Molly Bojanek (Williamsville/Williamsville East) kept the tie intact in net. Bojanek entered the game at halftime and recorded seven saves in the final 65 minutes, including one in the first overtime.

While outshot in the game 24-16, the Blue Devils (1-3-1, 0-0-1 SUNYAC) had an 11-6 advantage in corner kicks.

Eileen Coyle scored the Geneseo goal in the first minute of the game -- 0:48 to be exact. Blue Knight goalkeeper Katie Clerkin was credited with three saves.

The teams conducted a shootout for post-season tiebreaking purposes and the Blue Devils emerged with a 5-4 advantage.

Fredonia State returns to SUNYAC road play next weekend with games Friday and Saturday, at New Paltz and Oneonta, respectively.
