DePauw scores early, holds off Devils

WHEATON, Ill. -- DePauw scored at 19:28 and held off Fredonia State, 1-0, at the Bob Baptista Invitational.

Katy Phillips connected for the game-winner, assisted by Mary Beth Robinson, for DePauw (1-1). Fredonia State goalkeeper Becky Scroger (Spencerport/Spencerport) stopped four other shots on net.

The Blue Devils (0-2) failed to mount an offensive attack in either game of the tournament (they fell 6-0 to host Wheaton earlier). Jessi Poliseno (Lakeview/Frontier) was credited with the lone Blue Devil shot. It missed the mark wide of DePauw goalkeeper Brooke Shipley.

Next on tap for Fredonia State is a meeting vs. Hiram College noon Friday, Sept. 8., in the first round of the Blue Devil Classic.
