Game of firsts as Devils edge Elmira

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- An unassisted goal by sophomore defender Jessi Poliseno (Lakeview/Frontier) lifted Fredonia State over Elmira College, 1-0, in intercollegiate women's soccer Tuesday.

Poliseno intercepted a clearing pass by an Elmira player and went in alone for her goal at 71:42. It was her first goal and her first point as a collegian.

Freshman goalkeeper Becky Scroger (Spencerport/Spencerport) was called on to make three saves while recording her first collegiate shutout.

The Blue Devils (3-3-2) had a 19-8 advantage in shots over the Soaring Eagles (1-5).

Elmira goalkeeper Molly Hamel (North Yarmouth, Maine) was credited with nine stops.

The Blue Devils are back in action at home Thursday (Sept. 22) vs. Roberts Wesleyan.
