The Blue Devils (2-5-1) had their best offensive game of the season, a 5-2 non-conference victory Tuesday over Elmira College. It was the first home night game in the 22-year history of Fredonia State women's soccer. Five players found the net for Fredonia State, which had only scored four goals in its previous seven games. Sophomore forward Lauren Heilweil (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) and sophomore defender Gwen Curtis (Rochester/Greece Arcadia) led the attack with one goal and one assist each. For Curtis, it was her first collegiate goal, a distinction she shared on the night with freshman midfielder Angela Beck (Randolph), whose goal with :34 left in the first half put the Blue Devils on top, 2-1. They would lead the rest of the way. Also netting goals for Fredonia State were senior defender Danielle Bleecker (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon) and junior midfielder Jacki Borcyk (Rochester/Greece Odyssey). Bleecker's tally tied the score at 1-1 while Borcyk's -- in the 48th minute -- goes down as the game-winner. It put Fredonia State into a 3-1 lead. Back in net for her second straight start was freshman Molly Bojanek (Williamsville/Williamsville East), credited with three saves in 76 minutes of duty. She allowed the two Elmira goals. Becky Scroger (Spencerport), a junior, made three saves in 14 minutes of relief. The Soaring Eagles (0-8-0) took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute on a goal by Moira Ghent (Chittenden, Vt.). Fredonia State scored four unanswered goals before Elmira's Kaitlin Borrelli (New Canaan, Conn.) arced a shot over Bojanek in the 74th minute. Christine Domingo (Newington, Conn.) assisted on both Soaring Eagle goals while Meaghan Doherty (Albany) was credited with six saves in goal. The Blue Devils remain at home for a pair of SUNYAC games later this week. They meet Morrisville State at 4 p.m. Friday and SUNYIT at 1 p.m. Saturday.
