Scroger, Case tie career records in 7-0 win

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Junior goalkeeper Becky Scroger (Spencerport) and head coach Chris Case tied school records in separate categories Friday after a 7-0 SUNYAC victory over Morrisville State.

Scroger made one save to record her second shutout of the season and the 15th as a Blue Devil, tying her with Brianna Falvey, who posted 15 shutouts from 2001 to 2004.

The win was the 52nd for Case at Fredonia State, which equals Lisa B. Siegel's 52 wins over seven seasons (1992-98). Case has an all-time mark of 52-44-11 in five-plus seasons.

The outcome Friday was never in doubt. Sophomore midfielder Lisa Curtis (Rochester/Greece Arcadia) scored in the fourth minute as the Blue Devils (3-5-1, 1-2-1 SUNYAC) wasted little time in gaining the upper hand. It was the first collegiate goal by Curtis, followed quickly by her second collegiate goal -- in the 14th minute -- for a 2-0 lead. Sophomore forward Lauren Heilweil (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) assisted on both Curtis goals.

Senior defender Danielle Bleecker (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 28th minute, then assisted freshman midfielder Angela Beck (Randolph) with the next goal goals -- in the 33rd and 36th minute.

Freshman forward Julie LaPolla (Penfield) closed out the first-half scoring with her first collegiate goal in the 42nd minute. The Blue Devils had a 41-1 advantage in shots during the half en route a 56-1 advantage in the game.

Freshman forward Jessica Loretz (Endwell/Maine Endwell) completed the onslaught with the lone goal of the second half, also her first collegiate tally, in the 54th minute.

Despite allowing all seven goals, Morrisville State sophomore goalkeeper Katie Tiffany (DeRuyter) was called on to make 23 saves.

Both teams return to SUNYAC action Saturday -- the Mustangs (0-9-1, 0-4-0 SUNYAC) at Buffalo State, and the Blue Devils back at University Stadium vs. SUNYIT. Game time is 1 p.m.
