Cortland scores early in second half, hangs on

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Cortland scored 2:30 into the second half and held off Fredonia State for a 1-0 SUNYAC win Friday at Steele Hall Field.

The Red Dragons' Katie Trivisonno (Apalachin) ran down a through ball and one-timed a shot from 18 yards out into the top right corner at 47:30 of the contest.

Ilona Szotyori (Saugerties) was credited with the assist.

Cortland goalkeeper Katie Killion (Amherst) made three saves to earn the shutout. One of her stops was a diving deflection of a blast off the foot of Fredonia State freshman Kaelyn Puidokas (Rochester/Aquinas) about 10 minutes into the second half.

The Blue Devils (5-4-2, 2-2-0 SUNYAC) attempted seven shots, two by sophomore midfielder Linsay Kulas (Rochester/Aquinas Institute).

The Red Dragons (6-3-0, 3-1-0 SUNYAC) were credited with 13 shots. Fredonia State freshman goalkeeper Becky Scroger (Spencerport/Spencerport) had six saves.

Each team attempted three corner kicks.

Fredonia State is back in action 1 p.m. Saturday vs. SUNYAC foe Oswego on Steele Hall Field.
