Grimes nets OT winner

GORHAM, Maine – Tracy Grimes (Rochester) scored 3:21 into the overtime session to left the Blue Devils to a 2-1 victory over Western New England College in the first round of the Southern Maine Invitational.

Grimes took a cross pass from junior Anita Salinas (Rochester) and, after having her first shot stuff, slotted home a shot from 10 yards out.

The game was a defensive struggle until Western New England's Erinne Goodwin broke the scoreless tie at 74:02.

The Blue Devils (1-1) erased the one-goal deficit in short order when fresham defender Danielle Bleecker (Pittsford) scored on a hard shot into the upper right corner from outside the 18-yard box. Junior forward Jessica Weiser (Rochester0) was credited with an assist.

In recording the victory, senior goalkeeper Brianna Falvey (Chittenango) was not required to make a save.

The Blue Devils meet the host team, Southern Maine, at noon Sunday. Western New England meets Wisconsin-La Crosse at 2:30 p.m.
