Big second half propels Brockport

FREDONIA, N.Y. – Four different Brockport players had goals Friday in its 4-2 SUNYAC road win over Fredonia State.

Leanne Gedraitis (West Falls/Holland) connected on a header with 31:10 left in the second half to break a 2-2 tie. Ashley Ewin (Rochester/Greece Athena) netted an insurance goal on a set up from Gedraitis with 22:02 to play.

Tara Sturzenbecker (Jamestown/Panama) scored for the Golden Eagles (7-6-1, 4-3-1) during the first half while Kasey Andrieu (Rochester/Churchville Chili) put in a second-half goal from Ewin.

Junior forward Amy Wenzel (Elma/Iroquois) and senior midfielder Amy DeBarbieri (Portville/Portville) scored for the Blue Devils (7-6-2, 3-4-1). Junior forward Jessica Weiser (Rocheter/Greece Athena) assisted on both goals.

The Blue Devils have two conference games remaining --- home Saturday vs. Geneseo (1 p.m.), home Oct. 20 vs. Buffalo State -- in their bid to nail down one of six SUNYAC Tournament berths. They entered play Friday tied for fifth.

Fredonia State broke on top Friday, 1-0, on Wenzel's goal following a perfect cross by Weiser from the right corner. Brockport took a 2-1 lead on goals by Sturtzenbecker and Andrieu, only to have DeBarbieri's goal forge a 2-2 tie with 32:53 left in the second half.

Gedraitis broke the tie in a little under two minutes. Brockport goalkeeper Liz Durfee (Williamson/Williamson) preserved the lead by making five saves.

Fredonia State senior goalkeeper Brianna Falvey (Chittenango/Chittenango) was credited with four saves.
