Devils downed by Oneonta

CORTLAND, N.Y. – Cortland's only shot on goal in the game resulted in the only goal as the Red Dragons downed Fredonia State, 1-0, in SUNYAC action.

Ilona Szotyori scored 63:49 into the game as she one-timed a cross from Andrea Marino for the Red Dragons (5-4-1, 4-0-0).

The Blue Devils (6-4-1, 2-2-0) had the best chances in the first half. Freshman Linsay Kulas (Rochester/Aquinas Institute) was alone on the right side but couldn't control a bouncing pass and put a shot wide of the right post in the fifth minute.

Moments later, senior Amy DeBarbieri (Portville/Portville) was denied from 10-yards out on a diving stop by Cortland goalkeeper Christa Windhorst.

The Blue Devils had one final chance to tie when, in the 65th minute, freshman Jessica Weinberger (Pittsford/Pittsford Mendon) drove a header on goal after a corner kick. Windhorst made the save, one of three she had in posting her fourth shutout of the season.

Senior Brianna Falvey (Chittenango/Chittenango) was in the Fredonia State goal.

The Blue Devils took 13 shots to Cortland's 7.

Fredonia State is back in action 1 p.m. Saturday at Oswego.
