Devils blanked in opener

ELMIRA, N.Y. – Elmira College made an early goal stand to drop Fredonia State, 1-0, in the Blue Devils' season opener.

Charissa Gawant's unassisted goal 3:35 into the contest was the only blemish on the goalkeeping record of Brianna Falvey, who made seven saves.

The Blue Devils took 11 shots and put seven on goal -- two each by Amy DeBarbieri and Linsay Kulas. Elmira goalkeeper Meaghan Doherty posted the shutout.

The Blue Devils' next action is Saturday against Western New England in the Southern Maine Invitational.
