Chapman triple winner as Devils down Buffalo State

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Lexi Chapman (Lockport/Lockport) claimed victories in the 200 medley, 1000 freestyle and 100 butterfly leading Fredonia State to a 144-99 win over Buffalo State at the Steele Hall Natatorium. It was the team's first time back in competive swimming since their return from training camp in Florida earlier this week.

Blue Devil diver Kelly Sponholz (Alden/Alden) won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events with scores of 234.05 and 232.65, respectively. Both set new school records. In addition, Sponholz improved to 12-0 in dual meets this season (6-0 in each event). She is also 2-0 in multi-team meets.

Cassie Austin (Cuba/Cuba-Rushford) also claimed two first-place finishes. She touched first in the 50 yard freestyle in a time of 26:19. She also helped the Blue Devil 200 medley relay team finish first in a time of 1:58.30. Emily Dizer (Tonawanda/Sweet Home ), Liz Mirt (Rochester/Aquinas) and Chapman were the other members of the squad.

"It was a total team effort," said head coach Arthur Wang. "I am quite pleased with the teams' performance after an intense training camp in Florida."

The men's team also claimed victory, 121-102. It was the Blue Devil's first win over the Buff State men's team since the rebirth of the program four years ago.
