Devils fall just short at Penn State Behrend

ERIE, Pa. -- Fredonia State dropped a 5-4 decision Tuesday to Penn State Behrend.

The Blue Devils (1-6) improved on their previous meeting with Behrend, a 6-3 loss Sept. 14 at Fredonia.

"The team," head coach Joe Calarco said, "continues to improve each match, winning more points. (But) we need more consistency to win matches."

The freshman duo of Sierra Summerville (Mexico/Mexico) and Elise Daigler (North Tonawanda/North Tonawanda) remained unbeaten in their respective singles competition this fall despite each moving up one spot in the lineup. Summerville improved to 5-0 with a victory at the No. 4 slot, and Daigler improved to 4-0 by winning at No. 5.

Fredonia State's other wins were by Rachel LaPaglia (Fredonia/Fredonia) at No. 6 singles, and by the No. 3 doubles team of Ellen Engel (Rochester/Irondequoit) and Amy Sacca (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs).

Next match for the Blue Devils is Thursday (Sept. 22) vs. Alfred on the Steele Hall Courts beginning at 3 p.m.
