Women's Tennis

Alfred gets the upper-hand over Devils

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Alfred University took seven of nine matches against the Blue Devils in women's college tennis action Thursday afternoon.

The Blue Devils (1-7) earned a singles win from Rachel LaPaglia (Fredonia/Fredonia) and a doubles match victory from Sierra Summerville (Mexico/Mexico) and Elise Daigler (North Tonawanda/North Tonawanda). LaPaglia's win came in straight sets, 6-0 and 6-0.

Head coach Joe Calarco saw positive out of the performances. "We continue to win more games and we are getting closer to winning some points and matches."

Fredonia State's Ellen Engel (Rochester/Irondequoit) and Sarah Yates (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) both lost in third set tiebreakers.

Next match for the Blue Devils is Tuesday (Sept. 27) vs. Roberts Wesleyan on the Steele Hall Courts beginning at 3 p.m.
