Women's Tennis

Devils go 2-1 at Behrend tournament

ERIE, Pa. -- Fredonia State won two matches and lost one Saturday at the Penn State Behrend Tennis Invitational.

The Blue Devils defeated Frostburg State, 3-2, in their first match of the day, and closed out the event with a 3-2 victory over Chatham. In between, Geneva topped the Blue Devils, 4-1, with the doubles team of senior Marie Holla (Wellsville) and junior Elise Daigler (North Tonawanda) earning the lone point. Holla and Daigler won all three of their matches on the day.

In addition, sophomore Mallory Long (Canandaigua) won two matches, and junior Sierra Summerville (Mexico) and sophomore Megan Zarzycki (Rochester/Irondequoit) won one match each. One of Long's wins and Summerville's victory were the results of rallies vs. Frostburg -- both from 4-1 deficits. Long emerged with a 9-7 win, Summerville 8-6.

The Blue Devils are back in action Wednesday in a home match vs. Penn State Behrend.

Geneva 4, Fredonia State 1 -- Singles: Jill Halama (G) d. Pagano, 8-2; Allison Krisza (G) d. Summerville, 8-1; Tess Roholt (G) d. Zarzycki, 8-0; Katie Caldwell (G) d. Long, 8-4; Bethany Ragonesi (G) d. Spicola. Doubles: Holla/Daigler (F) d. Beth Sweatman/Jill Grabski, 8-5.

Fredonia State 3, Chatham 2 -- Singles: Barb Petty (C) d. Pagano, 8-4; Erica Parrinello (C) d. Summerville, 8-1; Zarzycki (F) d. Sowmya Narayanan, 8-5; Long (F) d. Kyra Walker, 8-2; Doubles: Holla/Daigler (F) d. Rebecca Minges/Megan Padula, 8-3.
