Lucky 13 for Devil netters

FREDONIA, N.Y. – Fredonia State ended a 13-year drought vs. Brockport with a 6-3 victory Tuesday on the Steele Hall courts.

The Blue Devils (3-7) won four of the six singles matches and two of three doubles matches. It was their final match of the regular season.

Singles winners were freshman Marie Holla (Wellsville), freshman Brittany Pagano (Silver Creek/Nequa Valley, Ill.), freshman Sarah Yates (Orchard Park), and freshman Rachel LaPaglia (Fredonia). Holla and Pagano, and Yates and LaPaglia formed the winning doubles teams.

The Blue Devils will participate in the SUNYAC Championships starting Friday at the Eastside Racquet Club in Syracuse.

Fredonia State 6, Brockport 3 -- Singles: Ashley Balling (B) d. Kim Menth (Tonawanda) 6-2, 6-2; Kayla Mizgala (B) d. Ellen Engel (Rochester/Irondequoit) 6-0, 6-4; Holla (F) d. Emily Longnecker 6-1, 6-3; Pagano (F) d. Felicia Yadanza 6-0, 5-7, 6-4; Yates (F) d. Jamie McDonald 6-2, 6-4; LaPaglia (F) d. Holly Acito 6-3, 6-1. Doubles: Balling/Mizgala (B) d. Menth/Engel 8-1; Holla/Pagano (F) d. Angie Bermudez/Acito 8-3; Yates/LaPaglia (F) d. Mandy Schepis/Stephanie Cali 8-4.
