Eight make SUNYAC qualifying standard

FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Eight Fredonia State women earn SUNYAC qualification status during the Fredonia Early Open meet Saturday at Steele Hall.

Freshman thrower Julia Hopson (Poughkeepsie/Arlington) and senior hurdler Krista Morse (Freedom/Pioneer) qualified for SUNYACs in two events each.

Hopson was second in both the 20-pound weight throw and the shot put. Her weight throw of 13.14 meters is fifth all-time at Fredonia State. Her shot was measured at 11.72 meters.

Morse finished first in 55-meter high hurdles in 9.34 seconds. She was also third in the long jump (4.78 meters).

Also reaching SUNYAC qualifying status were senior Liz Schaller (Marilla/St. Mary's) in the triple jump (10.37 meters, 1st), junior Erin Ross (Amherst/Amherst) in the pole vault (9' 6", 1st), and senior Meredith Schichtel (Hamburg/Frontier) in the 20-lb. weight throw (10.06 meters, 3rd).

Junior Stephanie Milks (Binghamton/Chenango Valley) was first in the 400 meters with a time of 1:04.38.

Two freshman high jumpers, Jessica Tucker (Bloomburg/Pine Bush) and Lisa Rewinski (Westhampton Beach/Westhampton Beach), were second and third, respectively. Tucker cleared 1.52 meters, Rewinski 1.47 meters.

In addition, junior Danitra Lee (Lansing/Lansing) won the 200-meter dash in 29.77 seconds but fell short of qualifying for SUNYACs.
