Freshman wins two events at Case relays

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Fredonia State freshman Julia Hopson (Poughkeepsie/Arlington) won two events Saturday at Case Western Reserve's Spartan Relays.

Hopson won the 20-pound weight throw with a toss of 13.02 meters, and she won the shot put with 11.27. Both distances were SUNYAC qualifiers.

Other top performances for Fredonia State were turned in by senior Krista Morse (Freedom/Pioneer) in the 55-meter high hurdles (:09.37, 4th), junior Rachel McNamara (Lakeview/Nardin) in the one mile (5:41.21, 7th), sophomore Katie Sylves (Buffalo/Kenmore West) in the 400 meters (1:06.06, 11th), and senior Liz Schaller (Marilla/St. Mary's) in the long jump (5.10 meters, 3rd).

Two freshmen high jumpers, Lisa Rewinski (Westhampton Beach/Westhampton Beach) and Jessica Tucker (Bloomburg/Pine Bush), cleared 1.47 meters each. Rewinski finished fourth, Tucker sixth.

In addition, the 4-by-200 meter relay team was third in 1:54.72. Members of the quartet were Stephanie Milks (Binghamton/Chenango Forks), Morse, Schaller, and Nicole Smith.

The Fredonia State women were sixth in team scoring.
