Women's Cross Country

Freshman eighth at season-opening race

CLEVELAND, Ohio. -- Running in her first collegiate race, freshman Jessica Bennett (Rochester/West Irondeqouit) finished eighth overall Saturday at Case Western Reserve's Bill Sudeck Classic.

Bennett was clocked in 19:33.5 over the 5-kilometer course at the Squire Valley View Farm. The winning time was 18:31.80 by Edinboro's Rachel Lanzel.

Senior Ashley Tramp (Buffalo/Kenmore East) was the second Blue Devil finisher. She was 57th overall in 21:24.90.

Rounding out Fredonia State's top five were freshman Kathleen Granchelli (Lockport/Lockport), senior Brittney Bennett (Livonia/Livonia), and junior Kristen Rohne (Queensbury/Queensbury).

The Blue Devils were 10th in the team standings with an average time of 21:44.88 by the first five finishers.
