Devils open season at CWRU

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Fredonia State cross country teams opened their season Saturday at the 4th annual Bill Sudeck Classic Invitational, hosted by Case Western Reserve University.

Dani Pendl led the Blue Devil women to a seventh-place finish. She finished 12th overall, six places ahead of Rachel McNamara.

The men --- ninth overall --- were led by freshman and 24th-place finisher Michael Pond.

Head coacn Nolan Swanson said Chris Mills, the top returning male runner, missed the meet because of a knee injury. Swanson also held out several women who are readying themselves for the next meet, Sept. 11, hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology.

The Sudeck Classic was the first meet of Swanson's college head coaching career.
