Men's & Women's Cross Country

Men, women finish fifth

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men and women cross country teams both finished fifth overall at the SUNYAC Championships held at Plattsburgh State. There were nine SUNYAC teams competing in the women's bracket and 11 teams on the men's side.

Ashley Tramp (Buffalo/Kenmore East) was the top women's finisher for the Blue Devils. She finished 16th overall in a time of 23:56.4 in the 6,000-meter course. Other Blue Devils in the top 25 were Aimee Milks (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) who finished 22nd in a time of 24:27.6; Rachel McNamera (Lakeview/Nardin) who was 23rd in a time of 24:39.4; and Samantha Ellwood (Hamburg/Hamburg) who finished 25th in a time of 24:44.9.

Liz Montgomery of Geneseo was the top individual finisher in a time of 21:21.2. She helped her team finish in the top spot of the team standings with a score of 19. Brockport finished a distant second with 83 points. Fredonia State finished with 129 points.

For the men, Junior Andrew Forma (Elma/St. Francis) was sixth overall in a time of 25:45.3 in the 8,000-meter course. Sophomore Michael Pond (Somers/Somers) finished 16th in a time of 26:24.3. He was the only other Blue Devil to finish in the top 30.

Matt De Shane of Plattsburgh topped the field in a time of 25:03.6. Geneseo won the men's team championship with 43 points, 26 points ahead of second place Cortland. The Blue Devils finished with 138 points.
