Men's & Women's Cross Country

Men second at Hamilton meet; women fourth

CLINTON, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men finished second of 11 teams Saturday at the Hamilton College Invitational.

The Blue Devils finished six points behind Queens University, Ont., and finished ahead of two teams ranked ahead of them in the regional poll.

The Fredonia State women were fourth of 11 teams at Hamilton.

Junior Andrew Forma (Elma/St. Francis) was second overall in the men's 8,000-meter race in a time of 26:15. Sophomore Michael Pond (Somers/Somers) finished fourth in 26:19, a personal-best by 33 seconds.

Rounding out the men's top five were junior Jason Smith (Queensbury/Queensbury), 18th in a personal-best 27:11; senior David Mink (Rensselaer/Columbia), 20th in 27:21; and junior Kevin Buzzelli (Grand Island/Grand Island), 27th in 27:42.

"They really got it going today," head coach Nolan Swanson said of the men.

The women were led by junior Aimee Milks (Binghamton/Chenango Forks), who improved on her previous best 5,000-meter time by 49 seconds. Her time Saturday of 19:02 was good for ninth place.

Junior Ashley Tramp (Buffalo/Kenmore East) was 12th overall in 19:03, while the next three Blue Devil women had personal-best times. Freshman Trisha Ippolito (Angola/Lake Shore) was 30th in 19:59; senior Alison Morgan (Hilton/Hilton) was 36th in 20:11; and junior Rachel McNamara (Lakeview/Nardin) was 40th in 20:16.

The Blue Devils are off until the SUNYAC Championship meet Oct. 22.
