Bennett personal-best 22:43 for 6,000 meters leaves her on the brink of qualifying for the NCAA Division III championship meet. Head coach Nolan Swanson said the field will become official Sunday. "We had our best meet of the year with a number of personal bests," Swanson said. "Bennett's time was the best time turned in since I've been at Fredonia State." Senior Samantha Ellwood (Hamburg) was the second Devil to cross the line -- 59th overall in 23:57, just seconds behind her pesonal-best time. A four-year runner, Ellwood ran her final meet as a Blue Devil. "Samantha was here from the start, and played a big part in the success of our program," Swanson said. Also competing on the women's side for Fredonia State were junior Trisha Ippolito (Angola/Lake Shore), was was 110th in 25:07; junior Laura Morroni (Elmira Heights/Edison), whose 25:23 was her best time by two minutes; and freshman Melinda Houle (Rochester/Greece Athena), 158th in a season-best 25:58. Fredonia State was 15th in the 37-team field. In the men's race, the Blue Devils were 13th overall. Sophomore Tom Williams (Queensbury) was 36th individually in a field of 271 with a time of 25:42 for 8,000 meters. Next was junior Chris Walters (Tonawanda/Sweet Home), in 76th (26:33); freshman Andy Dunscombe (Endicott/Union-Endicott), 88th (26:45); freshman Vinny Granata (Fredonia/Fallbrook, Calif.), 95th (26:51); and freshman Josh Guarino (Bergen/Byron-Bergen), 115th (27:11).
