It is the best-ever finish by the Fredonia State women at an Atlantic Regional. The school's previos-best was a seventh place finish. Before Saturday, only one Fredonia State woman --- senior Morgan Burrows (Lockwood/Waverly) --- had run below the 24-minute mark for 6,000 meters this season. But at the fast Hoffman course, four Devils were under the mark --- all with personal-bests. Junior Kristen Veltz (Brockport/Brockport) was the first Blue Devil finisher. She was 38th overall in 23:47.6. Senior Dani Pendl (Patchogue/Patchogue-Medford) was 39th in 23:48.0, followed by sophomore Rachel McNamara (Lakeview/Nardin) in 23:57.5, and freshman Samantha Ellwood (Hamburg/Hamburg) in 23:59.6, After running among the race leaders early, Burrows dropped back to fifth for the team in a season-best 24:06.3. Due to graduate in December, she was running in her final collegiate competition. Fredonia State's top seven were completed by sophomore Ashley Tramp (Buffalo/Kenmore East) in a personal-best 24:37.0, and sophomore Aimee Milks (Binghamton/Chenango Forks) in 25:41.3.
