Four Blue Devils receive SUNYAC honors

FREDONIA, N.Y.  The Fredonia State baseball team placed four players on the State University of New York Athletic Conference All-Conference Baseball Team. It is the first time in the history of the program that four players were honored at once.

Senior catcher Mark Taurisani (Utica/Proctor) and junior designated hitter Tim Lockhart (Youngstown/Lewiston-Porter) were named to All-SUNYAC First Team.

Senior first baseman Matt Clark (Lewiston/Lewiston-Porter) and senior center fielder Mario Muscarella (Falconer) were All-SUNYAC Second Team picks.

n Taurisani batted .300 in 14 conference games, with five doubles and eight RBI. He made no errors behind the plate in 80 chances. Overall, Taurisani batted .300 and made no errors in 161 chances. He threw out 17 of 34 would-be basestealers.

n Lockhart appeared in 13 conference games and led the Blue Devils with a .383 batting average in conference-games only. He had one double and seven RBI. His overall batting average was .337 with nine doubles and 23 RBI.

n Clark batted .340 in 14 conference games with four doubles, one homer and 10 RBI. His .424 batting average in all 35 games was tops on the team as were his 11 doubles, two triples, seven homers, 38 RBI, 89 total bases and .712 slugging percentage.

n Muscarella also batted .340 in conference games with three doubles, one homer and a team-high 13 RBI. Muscarella batted .344 in all games, hit two homers and led the team with 12 stolen bases in 14 tries. He also was 2-2 with a 5.62 earned run average in four starts on the mound. He had three complete games.

The Blue Devils’ 13-22 overall record represented a six-game improvement over last season. They were 6-8 in SUNYAC.
