2003 Highlights

THREE MAKE SECOND TEAM

FREDONIA, N.Y. - Three Fredonia State women’s lacrosse players were named to the 2003 SUNYAC Women’s Lacrosse All-Conference team. All three women are Second Team selections.

Kristin Housel (Canandaigua), at left, was selected as a midfielder. With 46 points (29 goals and 17 assists), she was the ninth leading scorer in the conference. A senior speech pathology major, Housel finished her Fredonia State playing career with 122 career points, third all-time at the school. She leaves as the Fredonia State career assist leader with 43. “Kristin Housel … should have been first team,” Fredonia State coach Chris Case said. “This young lady did everything on the field she needed to do in every game.”

Katelyn Ferry (Lancaster), left, was named as an attacker. Ferry led the Blue Devils with 31 goals and was second on the team with 37 points. She is sophomore communications major. “(Katelyn) had a couple standout games with five goals and was consistent for the most part all season,” Case said. “She is only a sophomore, so she will have big expectations for the next two years.”

Louise Wolfe (Shoreham/Shoreham-Wading River), right, was named as one of four defenders on the Second Team. She is a junior chemistry major. “She was solid for us on defense in every game,” Case said. “She led our team in caused turnovers and was a big factor in limiting our opponents’ opportunities at goal.”

 


2003 HIGHLIGHTS

April 19: Geneseo 10, Blue Devils 7 - The Blue Devils closed out their season with a road conference loss. Aimee Baxter led with two goals and one assist while Katelyn Ferry, Jackie Broadbent, Kristin Housel, Sara Potter and Samantha Conner had one goal each. Goalkeeper Lynn Zlotkowski stopped 10 of 20 shots in her final collegiate game. Zlotkowski (Williamsville/Sacred Heart) is joined by Housel (Canandaigua) and Aimee Dobberstein (Fairport) as the departing seniors. The loss left the Devils at 7-8 overall, 2-6 in SUNYAC.

April 19: Blue Devils 17, New Paltz 1 - Fredonia State used a 10-0 first-half lead to put away New Paltz 17-1 in SUNYAC action. The win evened the Blue Devils record at 7-7, and 2-5 in the conference. Katelyn Ferry registered four goals for Fredonia, while Kristin Housel colleced three scores and five assists. The Fredonia defense allowed no first-half shots on goal, and only three in the second half.

April 18: Oneonta State 10, Blue Devils 7 - The Fredonia State women's lacrosse team dropped a tough 10-7 match to Oneonta State on Thursday afternoon. Erynn Anderson recorded three goals while Kristin Housel had two for the Blue Devils. Oneonta was led by Alaina Anderson and Sarah Andrews with three goals apiece. The win gives Oneonta a 6-1 ledger in conference play, and 9-2 overall. Fredonia drops to 1-5 (6-7). Fredonia is back in action at home on Saturday versus New Paltz at 1:00. Oneonta travels to Buffalo State.

April 15: Buffalo State 11, Blue Devils 9 - The Blue Devils dropped a tough conference match-up versus rival Buffalo State on Tuesday evening. The victory was the first-ever for the Bengals versus Fredonia. For the Blue Devils, Erynn Anderson netted 4 goals, while Katelyn Ferry and Kristin Housel each recorded 3 points for Fredonia. Buffalo State is now 3-5 overall, and 2-3 in SUNYAC play. Fredonia evens its record at 6-6 (1-5).

April 12: Blue Devils 19, Potsdam 3 - Kristin Housel led the Blue Devils to their first SUNYAC victory of the season with 5 goals as Fredonia cruised to a 19-3 victory over Potsdam. Katelyn Ferry (3),Erynn Anderson (2), Jenna McDonald (2), Sara Potter (2), and Samantha Conner (2) each had multiple goals in the offensive outburst. The Blue Devil defense allowed only 8 shots on goal in the victory.

April 10: Blue Devils 8, RIT 5 - Aimee Baxter had four goals to lead the Blue Devils to the home non-conference win and even their overall mark to 5-5. Katelyn Ferry added two goals, Erynn Anderson one goal and two assists and Kristin Housel one goal and one assist. Fredonia State goalkeeper Lynn Zlotkowski allowed only one goal in the second half. The teams were tied 4-4 at the break.

April 6: Oswego 10, Blue Devils 9 (OT) - A goal by Kathryn Stead late in overtime completed Oswego State’s 10-9 come-from-behind SUNYAC victory.The Great Lakers (4-3, 2-0 SUNYAC) scored twice in the final four minutes to erase a 9-7 deficit. Fredonia State goalkeeper Lynn Zlotkowski made three tough saves in the final minute of regulation time to send the game into the extra session. Zlotkowski finished with 13 saves. Katelyn Ferry had four goals to lead the offense for the Blue Devils (4-5, 0-3 SUNYAC). Jackie Broadbent and Jenna McDonald had two goals each. Courtney Wheeler had a singleton. In addition, the Blue Devils had two goals nullified for rule infractions.

April 5: Cortland 10, Blue Devils 2 - Elizabeth MacNabb had three goals to lead Cortland State over Fredonia State, 10-2, in SUNYAC women’s lacrosse. Sara Gorman, Kerri Finn and Kristie Anzalone had two goals each for the Red Dragons (6-3, 2-0 SUNYAC), the defending SUNYAC champions and tied for No. 5 last year in NCAA Division III. Laurie Gridley had a single goal and goalkeeper Regina Grosso stopped six of eight shots. Jackie Broadbent scored both goals for the Blue Devils (4-4, 0-1 SUNYAC), while goalkeeper Lynn Zlotkowski made 12 saves. The Blue Devils are back home Sunday vs. Oswego State at 2 p.m.

April 1: Brockport 11, Blue Devils 6 - Aimee Baxter had four goals while Kristin Housel and Jackie Broadbent had one goal each in the Blue Devils' SUNYAC loss on the road. Lynn Zlotkowski registered 14 saves. The loss dropped the Devils to 4-3, 0-1 in the conference.

March 31: Blue Devils 13, Alfred 4 - The Blue Devils won their third straight game and equalled last season's win total. Jenna McDonald showed the way on offense with three goals, and Lynn Zlotkowski stopped 12 of 16 shots in the Fredonia State cage. Aimee Baxter, Erynn Anderson and Kristin Housel had two goals each. Housel also had two assists. Adding single goals were Katelynn Ferry, Jackie Broadbent, Samantha Conner and Erin Schurr. The Blue Devils improved to 4-2; they were 4-11 in 2002. In addition, the win was the first over Alfred since a 15-14 overtime victory in 1998. The Saxons had won the last four meetings.

March 29: Blue Devils 24, Medaille 3 - Katelyn Ferry had four goals and two assists in the Blue Devils' lopsided home win. Jackie Broadbent had three goals and two assists and Sara Potter two goals and three assists for the Blue Devils, who had 13 different players score goals. Lynn Zlotkowski and Sarah Kretz split goalkeeping duties. The win lifted the Devils to 3-2 this spring.

March 27: Blue Devils 8, Allegheny 6 - Kristin Housel had three goals to lead the Blue Devils to an 8-6 non-conference victory over Allegheny College in Fredonia State's home opener. Jenna McDonald and Aimee Baxter had two goals each, while and Ashley Fanning had one goal. Fanning, Jackie Broadbent and Samantha Conner were credited with assists. Lynn Zlotkowski and Sarah Kretz shared the Devil goalkeeping duties. Each made three saves.

March 24: St. John Fisher 11, Blue Devils 8 - Katelyn Ferry had three goals and Erynn Anderson and Kristin Housel netted two goals each in the Devils' first game up north. Samantha Conner also had a goal plus one assist. Housel and Jenna McDonald also had assists. The Devils trailed 4-3 at halftime.

March 19: Colby Sawyer 13, Blue Devils 7 - Katelyn Ferry led the charge with three goals each in the Devils' first loss of the season at Hilton Head, S.C. Aimee Baxter added two goals. Jenna McDonald and Kristin Housel had one goal each.

March 17: Blue Devils 14, Franklin Pierce 2 - Kristin Housel had five goals and three assists to lead the Blue Devils to their season-opening win at Hilton Head, S.C. Jenna McDonald had three goals, Katelyn Ferry and Aimee Baxter two each, while Sara Potter and Erynn Anderson had one goal each. Starting goalkeeper Lynn Zlotkowski made seven saves.
