Oswego 82, Blue Devils 45
Game 25, Feb. 21 at Fredonia --
The Oswego State Lakers dashed the Fredonia State men's basketball team's hope of a post-season berth this season, defeating the Blue Devils 82-45. Fredonia (10-15 overall) finishes the season with a 6-10 conference mark, one game behind the 7-9 marks of Buff State, Plattsburgh, and SUNYIT. Oswego took a 41-21 lead at halftime and never looked back. Brendan Heffernan paced Oswego with 16 points. Fredonia was led by Nate Sanzo's 11 and Jason Campbell's 10 points.


New Paltz 90, Blue Devils 81
Game 24, Feb. 20 at Fredonia --
The New Paltz Hawks defeated the Blue Devils 90-81 in SUNYAC basketball action on Friday evening. The Blue Devils (10-14, 6-9 SUNYAC) were led by 22 points from Tim Anderson, while Nate Sanzo added 19 points and 9 boards. New Paltz (6-17, 4-11) was led by Joseph Bell with 13 points as 12 different Hawks figured in the scoring. Fredonia travels to Oswego tomorrow in the final regular season game. The results of tomorrow night's conference games will determine the seeding as Fredonia will battle for one of the two remaining playoff slots. The SUNYAC Tournament will begin on Tuesday, February 24th.


Brockport 90, Blue Devils 58
Game 23, Feb. 17 at Fredonia --
Brockport State Golden Eagles rolled to their 11th straight win Tuesday, 90-58, over Fredonia State at Steele Hall. Five players scored in double figures for the Golden Eagles (18-6, 14-1). The regular-season SUNYAC champs are No. 2 in the NCAA Division III East Region. Randy Bills with led the Brockport State attack with 18 points. Tim Anderson led the Blue Devils (10-13, 6-8) with 19 points. Jason Campbell, one of three seniors playing their final home game, added 13 points and freshman Taha Alassari had 12. The Golden Eagles led 51-26 at halftime after connecting on 7 of 10 from three-point range. They were 13 of 23 overall from beyond the arc, with five different players connecting for at least one. Kellen Skrine finished with 14 points in 14 minutes of playing time. Charlie Croff had 13 points and seven rebounds, while Brandon Mills added 12 points. David Andrews was 3 of 3 from beyond the arc and finished with 11 points.


Blue Devils 93, Oneonta 64
Game 22, Feb. 14 at Fredonia --
Six players scored in double figures Saturday in Fredonia State's 93-64 SUNYAC home win over Oneonta. Nate Sanzo had 18 points, and Chris Donahue and Mark Buckenmeyer had 15 points each for the Blue Devils. Jason Campbell added 12 points, while Tim Anderson and Taha Alassari had 10 points each. The Blue Devils shot 59.3 percent from the field (35 of 59), including Sanzo's 7 of 10 and Buckenmeyer's 6 of 9. Buckenmeyer also grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Campbell led the Blue Devils with five assists.

Blue Devils 70, Geneseo 67 (OT)
Game 21, Feb. 10 at Geneseo, N.Y. --
A three-point play by Jason Campbell with seven seconds left in overtime carried Fredonia State over Geneseo. Campbell scored while trailing the play following a steal and long drive to the basket by Taha Alassari. When Alassari's layup missed, Campbell rebounded and was fouled while scoring. Tim Anderson finished with a team-high 20 points, including a basket with 12 seconds left in regulation to force overtime, and Chris Donahue had an important three-point basket and two free throws down the stretch. Nate Sanzo added 16 points on 6 of 8 shooting from the field. He also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Donahue finished with 12 points and Mark Buckenmeyer added 10.

Cortland 63, Blue Devils 50
Game 20, Feb. 7 at Fredonia --
Brian Kirchhoff had 16 points to lead the Red Dragons (12-7, 5-6), who entered the day tied with the Blue Devils and two others teams for seventh place in the conference. Nate Sanzo had 13 points and eight rebounds for the Blue Devils. Chris Donahue added 11 points while Jason Campbell had five assists. The Red Dragons were leading 33-32 before going on a decisive 13-0 run for their largest lead, 49-35, with 7:24 left. The run included a pair of three-pointers by Jon Rother and one by O’Garrow. Rother finished with 13 points, O’Garrow with 12 and Frank Ranieri 11 for Cortland State.

SUNYIT 67, Blue Devils 59
Game 19, Feb. 6 at Fredonia --
The SUNYIT Wildcats rallied from as many as 10 points down Friday to claim a SUNYAC victory at Dods Hall. Four players scored in double figures for the Wildcats. Leonard Leon led the way with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Nick Grimmer added 15 points, while Rich Phillips and Chris Plante had 12 points each. Nate Sanzo led the Blue Devils with 14 points, eight rebounds and five assists. He was 7 of 10 from the field. Chris Donahue added 12 points while Tim Anderson had eight points and eight rebounds.

Blue Devils 62, Buffalo State 61
Game 18, Feb. 3 at Buffalo, N.Y. --
Fredonia State rallied to take the lead, then sweated out the final minute for a SUNYAC road win. Devin Watkins came off the bench for a team-high 16 points, plus five rebounds, while Mark Buckenmeyer had 12 points and nine rebounds. Down by as many as 11 points (20-9) in the first half, the Blue Devils trailed 36-30 at halftime. A 6-0 run on baskets by Nate Sanzo (8 points, 7 rebounds), Buckenmeyer and Jason Campbell pulled the teams even, 36-36, early in the second half. The teams were tied twice more before the Blue Devils took their first lead of the second half on a four-point play by Chris Rube with 4:17 remaining. Rube was fouled while making a trey. The basket and subsequent free throw put the Blue Devils ahead, 57-55. They held the lead the rest of the way, but not without anxious moments. Three missed free throws in the final 30 seconds allowed Buffalo State a chance to tie the game – or take the lead – right down to the final buzzer.

Potsdam 61, Blue Devils 40<
Game 17, Jan. 31 at Potsdam, N.Y. --
The Blue Devils were unable to recover from an early deficit. Down 30-21 at the half, the Blue Devils mounted a mild run before the Bears regained command. Devin Watkins and Tim Anderson had 10 points each off the bench for the Blue Devils.

Plattsburgh 67, Blue Devils 50
Game 16, Jan. 30 at Plattsburgh, N.Y. --
Four players scored in double figures for Plattsburgh. Curtis Smith led the way with 15 points, while Johnnie Carter had 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Nate Sanzo led the Blue Devils with 12 points and four blocked shots. Chris Donahue added 11 points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds. The Blue Devils led only briefly in the road game, the last time at 11-10 on a basket by Sanzo at 14:22 of the first half. The Cardinals then took command with a 17-4 run, including four points each by Carter and Brad Manor. Plattsburgh led at the half 32-23.

Pitt-Bradford 83, Blue Devils 61
Game 15, Jan. 26 at Bradford, Pa. --
University of Pitt-Bradford was deadly accurate from the field Monday in its 83-61 victory over the Blue Devils in the fourth meeting of the brothers Moore. The Panthers (8-7), coached by Andy Moore, younger brother of Devil head coach Kevin Moore, connected on 34 of 56 field goal attempts (60.7 percent) in the non-conference game. They were 19 of 29 (65.5 percent) in the decisive second half. Conversely, the Blue Devils (7-8) were just 9 of 31 (29 percent) in the second half. They were outscored 46-28 after training 37-33 at intermission. Tim Anderson had 12 points, Chris Donahue 11 and Jason Campbell 10 for the Blue Devils. Anderson and Campbell grabbed seven rebounds each. In was the fourth time the Moore brothers have been on opposite sides of the collegiate hardwood. Kevin won the first two meetings prior to this season, once as Elmira College head coach and again last season as coach of the Blue Devils. Andy's Panthers has won both meetings this year, starting with a 72-69 victory Nov. 22.

Blue Devils 65, Plattsburgh 63
Game 14, Jan. 24 at Fredonia --
Tim Anderson sank two free throws with 4.8 seconds remaining. He was fouled in the backcourt trying to hurry the ball up the floor for a last-second shot. Plattsburgh was unable to get off a final shot. Time ran out with several players from both teams scrambling after a loose ball under the Plattsburgh basket. Nate Sanzo led the Blue Devils with 14 points. He also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds and blocked four shots. Devin Watkins added 12 points and Chris Donahue had 11 points and six rebounds. Curtis Smith had 16 points for the Cardinals, including a game-tying layup with six seconds left.

Potsdam 63, Blue Devils 46
Game 13, Jan. 23 at Fredonia --
Christian Turner had 17 points to lead the Potsdam Bears to a SUNYAC victory at Steele Hall. Evril Clayton added 12 points while Edane Barton had seven points and 11 rebounds for the Bears, who led 35-27 at halftime and had a 43-29 rebounding advantage. Jason Campbell was the lone offensive bright spot for the Blue Devils. He had 13 points and team-high four assists. After a fast start, the Blue Devils struggled to make their shots. They opened their largest lead of the game, 17-10, on a three-point basket by Chris Donahue. The Bears gained command with a 17-4 run, which included five points by Clayton and four by Turner. The Blue Devils cut the deficit to three, 38-35, on a basket by Campbell early in the second half. But then the hosts lost their touch. They connected on only 29.2 percent of their shots in the second half. In addition, the Bears went to the line more often. They were 13 of 16 from the line, compared to 1 of 4 by Fredonia State.

Blue Devils 77, Oswego 75
Game 12, Jan. 20 at Fredonia --
Nate Sanzo had 25 points and Tim Anderson had a near triple-double with 20 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists for the Blue Devils (6-6, 2-2), winners of four of their last five games. In a game that was close throughout, both teams traded baskets for much of the first half. Sanzo had the hot hand early for the Blue Devils as he scored the team’s first 10 points. He had 19 points total in the first half and finished 10 of 13 from the field. Anderson was 8 of 16. The Blue Devils took their first lead, 16-14, on an Anderson three-pointer at 14:25 of the first half, and led 40-37 at halftime. The score see-sawed in the second half, with the Blue Devils taking a 73-69 lead with 36 seconds remaining as Chris Donahue made two free throws. Oswego missed the subsequent three-point attempt, and as Anderson grabbed the rebound he was fouled. He, too, nailed two free throws, and later added two more in the final seconds.

New Paltz 68, Blue Devils 67
Game 11, Jan. 17 at Fredonia --
John Hauser threw up a desperation shot as he fell back and hit the ground. It banked in with four seconds left on the clock to give New Paltz their first lead of the game and the SUNYAC victory. Fredonia’s last-ditch effort fell short as Jason Campbell drove the length of the court and had his lay-up roll off the rim. The Blue Devils were led by Campbell’s 15 points and Chris Donahue’s 13.

Blue Devils 87, Medaille 67
Game 10, Jan. 13 at Fredonia --
Tim Anderson scored 20 points for the second straight game as Fredonia State rolled over Medaille. Chris Donahue added 13 points and Taha Alassari added 12 for the Blue Devils. Fredonia State trailed 10-9 before Donahue gave his team the lead for good with two free throws. That was the start of a 14-4 run which ended when the Blue Devils took their first double-digit lead, 24-14, on a basket by Kevin Reichlmayr. Eleven Blue Devils entered the scoring column, including Jason Campbell with nine points to go along with seven assists. The Blue Devils outrebounded the Mavericks, 39-28.

Blue Devils 68, Thiel 56
Game 9, Jan. 10 at Fredonia -- Tim Anderson had 20 points and Chris Donahue added 15 as Fredonia State won its second straight game. Anderson was 8 of 13 shooting, including 6 of 7 en route to 16 points in the first half. He also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. The Blue Devils led 37-24 at the break. D.J. Gambridge had 13 points and seven rebounds while Dennis Bott added 11 points for Thiel. The Blue Devils shot 46.8 percent from the field (22 of 47) and had a 21-15 advantage from the foul line. They also outrebounded the Tomcats, 47-34, and won despite 26 turnovers.

Blue Devils 72, Hilbert 53
Game 8, Jan. 7 at Hamburg, N.Y. --
Nate Sanzo had 24 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Blue Devils. Sanzo was 10 of 13 from the field and 4 of 4 from the line in 33 minutes of duty. He also had three assists and one steal. Three other Blue Devils had eight points each: Devin Watkins, Tim Anderson and Chris Rube. Anderson also grabbed seven rebounds. The Blue Devils shot 42 percent from the field and 80 percent from the line compared to 28 percent and 58 percent by the Hawks. The Blue Devils also had a 48-36 rebounding advantage.

Penn State Behrend 77, Blue Devils 46
Game 7, Dec. 13 at Fredonia --
Penn State Behrend blew open a one-point game in the second half en route a 77-46 non-conference victory at Steele Hall. The Lions led 25-24 at halftime, only to outscore the Blue Devils by 30 points, 52-22, after the break. Tom Lulich led Behrend with 24 points while James Curren had 14 and Casey Ponsoll 11. The Lions shot 64.3 percent in the second half (18 of 28), including 8 of 14 from beyond the arc. Tim Anderson led Fredonia State with 16 points.

Blue Devils 70, Oneonta 52
Game 6, Dec. 6 at Oneonta, N.Y. --
Tim Anderson had 20 points in Fredonia State's SUNYAC road win over Oneonta. The victory ended a three-game losing skid by the Blue Devils and earned them a split of their weekend road trip. Anderson connected on 9 of 13 shots fril the field while Nate Sanzo was 7 of 7 en route to 15 points. James Charlton hit 3 of 4 from the field and finished with 11 points, a team-high 11 rebounds and six assists. He also also 5 of 5 from the foul line. The Blue Devils shot 50 percent from the floor (28 of 56).

Cortland 93, Blue Devils 74
Game 5, Dec. 5 at Cortland, N.Y. --
Sophomore forward Jon Rother led four Cortland double-figure scorers with 22 points as the Red Dragons knocked off the Blue Devils. Sophomore Tim Anderson led Fredonia with 21 points. Senior Luke Kennedy and senior Jason Campbell each scored 13 points. Kennedy and Anderson dished out four assists apiece.

St. John Fisher 70, Blue Devils 54
Game 4, Dec. 2 at Fredonia --
Nick Ripple had 15 points to lead unbeaten St. John Fisher over Fredonia State. Sean O’Brien and Mike McGee had 11 points each for the Cardinals (5-0), the No. 19 ranked NCAA Division III team in one preseason publication. O’Brien also grabbed seven rebounds and had six assists. Nate Sanzo had 14 points to lead the Blue Devils. Jason Campbell and Ed Spoth had seven points each.

D'Youville 83, Blue Devils 81 (OT)
Game 3, Nov. 25 at Buffalo, N.Y. --
Devin Watkins paced the Blue Devils with 19 points, Jason Campbell added 16 (on 7 of 10 shooting) and Taha Alassari had 10, all from the foul line. D'Youville led 40-33 at halftime. The teams were tied 72-72 at the end of regulation.

Blue Devils 85, Hilbert 60
Game 2, Nov. 23 at Pittsford, N.Y. -- Tim Anderson and Ed Spoth had 13 points each as the Blue Devils rolled over Hilbert in the consolation game of the Ramada Inn Invitational at St. John Fisher College. The playing time was divvied up among 16 Blue Devils (1-1), with no one player seeing more than 21 minutes of duty. As a result, the scoring was balanced. Nate Sanzo, Devin Watkins and Chris Donahue had nine points each. In addition, Sanzo had a team-high eight rebounds. James Charlton and Taha Alassari had seven points each. The Blue Devils led 40-27 at halftime and shot 50 percent in the game (31 of 62). They committed 14 personal fouls compared to 23 for Hilbert.

Pitt-Bradford 72, Blue Devils 69
Game 1, Nov. 22 at Pittsford, N.Y. --
Pitt-Bradford edged Fredonia State in the first round of the Ramada Inn Invitational at St. John Fisher College. It marked the first coaching loss by Fredonia State's Kevin Moore to his younger brother, Andy, head coach of UPB. Kevin had won two previous meetings. Nate Sanzo led the Blue Devils (0-1) in scoring with 17 points. Tim Anderson had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Ed Spoth added 11 points. A last-ditch trey by Devin Watkins missed the mark.
