– The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men’s soccer
coaches recognized four Fredonia State men’s soccer players with post-season
honors.
Senior midfielder Nate
Zinteck (Syracuse, N.Y./Nottingham H.S.) and junior defender Mitch Irish
(Fairport, N.Y./Fairport H.S.) were named by conference coaches to the All
SUNYAC First Team.
Sophomore goalkeeper Matt
Borchard (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South H.S.) and sophomore
forward Garrett Hauschild (Skaneateles, N.Y./Skaneateles H.S.) received
SUNYAC Honorable Mention.
In addition, Zinteck and
Irish were selected Northeast Region Second Team all-stars by the National
Soccer Coaches of America Association.
n Zinteck, a Blue Devil co-captain, was leading
the team in scoring with 16 points – 14 in conference games, fifth best in
SUNYAC – prior to Fredonia State’s 2-1 SUNYAC Tournament semifinal victory
Friday over Plattsburgh. His totals included two game-winning goals this
season, and 42 points (12 goals, 20 assists) in four seasons, which is tied for
15th on the all-time list. Zinteck has made an appearance on the All
SUNYAC teams twice before. He was the 2000 First Year Player of the Year and a
2002 Second Team selection. In addition, he made the 2001 SUNYAC All-Tournament
Team.
n Irish had 10 points entering the SUNYAC Tournament
semifinal. He, too, is a repeat all-star. As a freshman, he made All SUNYAC
Third Team. As a sophomore, he was Second Team All Northeast Region.
n Borchard started the 12 games this season prior to the
game Friday. He had three shutouts in conference competition (5 overall) and
was fourth in the conference in save percentage (.845) and goals-against
average (1.09). He was the SUNYAC Player of the Week for the week ending Oct.
27.
n Hauschild had four goals
and two assists prior to weekend action. He ranked in the top 20 in four SUNYAC
scoring categories: total points (16th), points per game (19th),
goals (9th) and goals per game (11th). He was also
selected SUNYAC Player of the Week for the week ending Oct. 5.
