Oswego 59, Blue Devils 48
Game 25, Feb. 21 at Oswego, N.Y.
-- The Oswego State Lakers (20-3, 13-3) defeated Fredonia State (8-17, 3-13 SUNYAC) 59-48 to close out the regular season. Fredonia received outstanding efforts from Katie Estes (19 points and 9 rebounds) and Amanda Neamon, who recorded a career-high 19 rebounds. Kelly Mraz paced the Oswego attack with 19 points off the bench.

New Paltz 63, Blue Devils 46
Game 24, Feb. 20 at New Paltz, N.Y.
-- Freshman guard Kelley Germain (Albany, NY) scored 23 points to lead the SUNY New Paltz women's basketball team to a 63-46 win over conference rival Fredonia this evening at Elting Gym. The victory secured the Hawks one of the eight spots in next week's conference post-season tournament. New Paltz (7-16, 4-11) will be making its first SUNYAC Tournament appearance since the 2001 season. Germain hit five, three-point field goals and was 8-of-14 from the floor to help the Hawks earn their second victory of the season over Fredonia. Freshman guard Kerri Kelty (Valley Stream, NY) also turned in a strong effort for New Paltz and finished with 17 points, seven rebounds, and six assists. The Hawks opened up a 30-20 lead at the break behind a defensive effort that held Fredonia to 7-of-32 shooting from the floor in the first 20 minutes. New Paltz maintained a double figure lead for the entire second half and a three-pointer by Kelty put the Hawks ahead 50-29 with eight minutes to play. Senior forward Clare Crowley (Buffalo, NY) was the leading scorer for Fredonia with nine points. The Blue Devils are now 8-16 overall and 3-12 in the SUNYAC.

Brockport 52, Blue Devils 43
Game 23, Feb. 10 at Fredonia, N.Y.
-- In the final home game for the Fredonia State women’s basketball team this season, the Golden Eagles of Brockport came from behind to defeat the Blue Devils, 52-43. The Blue Devils (8-15, 3-11 SUNYAC) came back from a seven-point halftime deficit to take a 32-31 lead at the 13:33 mark of the second half on a jumper by Amy Bushen. The Blue Devils held the lead until 5:08 remained. That’s when a basket by Kim Schlegel put the Golden Eagles (9-14, 8-7) ahead to stay. Jessica Welch led all scorers with 17 points for Brockport. Meghan Squires registered a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Bushen, a senior playing her final game in Steele Hall, and Katie Estes topped Fredonia with 10 points apiece. Clare Crowley finished with 7 points and 10 rebounds in the final home game of her career. Fellow senior Jackie Smith had two points and one assist in her final home appearance. The Blue Devils finish the regular season this weekend, Friday at New Paltz and Saturday at Oswego. Brockport wraps up its regular season on Saturday at New Paltz. The Golden Eagles have clinched a spot in the SUNYAC Tournament, which will begin on February 24th.

Oneonta, Blue Devils 54
Game 22, Feb. 14 at Fredonia, N.Y.
-- The Red Dragons had 11 players in the scoring column, but only one in double figures: Kristen Wittig, with 10 points in 15 minutes of playing time. Anna Marie Faia added nine points. Heather Martin had 12 points and Tina Homan had 11 for the Blue Devils, whose poor shooting early led to a halftime deficit of 27-18. Oneonta took its largest lead, 49-30, on a basket by Heather Berger with 8:59 left in the game. The Blue Devils then mounted a furious rally in which they twice cut their deficit to six points in the final minute: 57-51 on a basket by Liz Derx, and 59-53 on two free throws by Homan.

Geneseo 70, Blue Devils 54
Game 21, Feb. 10 at Geneseo, N.Y.
-- Four players scored in double figures for Geneseo with Felisa Brown leading the way with 16 points. Katie Estes led the Blue Devils with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Heather Martin and Amy Bushen added 10 points each, while Amanda Neamon grabbed 10 rebounds.

Blue Devils 77, SUNYIT 59
Game 20, Feb. 7 at Fredonia
-- The Cortland Red Dragons averted an upset loss with a strong second half. Dani Maye had 20 points, 11 in the second half, while the Red Dragons shut down the inside scoring of Fredonia State's Katie Estes. Estes led the Blue Devils (8-12, 3-8) with 21 points, all in the first half, on 9 of 14 shooting before intermission. Estes was 0 of 3 from the field in the second half as the Red Dragons sagged the middle and denied her the ball. Heather Martin picked up some of the slack with 10 second-half points. Amanda Neamon pulled down nine rebounds for the Blue Devils, and Amy Bushen collected eight assists.

Blue Devils 77, SUNYIT 59
Game 19, Feb. 6 at Fredonia
-- Amanda Neamon poured in 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to pace the Fredonia State Blue Devils to the SUNYAC win at Dods Hall. Neamon connected on 10 of 13 shots while posting her collegiate high-game in scoring. She also had a team-high five steals. Katie Estes also had a double-double for the Blue Devils with 18 points and 13 rebounds, while Clare Crowley added 11 points and nine rebounds. SUNYAC assist leader Amy Bushen added eight assists to her season total. Jessica Skelton led the Wildcats with 26 points, including 10 of 11 from the foul line.

Buffalo State 62, Blue Devils 52
Game 18, Feb. 3 at Buffalo, N.Y.
-- The Blue Devils made two runs Feb. 3 at Buffalo State's lead, only to fall short twice. After falling behind by 10 points twice in the first half, the Blue Devils cut their deficit to four points, 25-21, on a basket by Katie Estes (12 points, 9 rebounds) with 2:04 left in the half. Neither team scored until Darnika Moseley's layup with :03 left gave Buffalo State a 27-21 halftime lead. The Bengals opened the second half with an 11-2 run to take their largest lead, 38-23. The Blue Devils managed to erase all but one point of their deficit over the next 10 minutes. Six players scored, including four points each by Estes and Heather Martin, during a 20-6 run by the Blue Devils which cut the Buffalo State lead to 44-43. The teams traded baskets before Buffalo State regained command for good with an 8-0 run. Amanda Neamon had a double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds, including 12 at the defensive end. Clare Crowley also had 11 points.

Potsdam 68, Blue Devils 51
Game 17, Jan. 31 at Potsdam, N.Y.
-- Kate Sullivan had 27 points to lead Potsdam past the Blue Devils. Amanda Neamon led the Blue Devils with 11 points and nine rebounds. Katie Estes also had 11 points while Clare Crowley had 10 points and eight rebounds. The Blue Devils had trouble with their shooting for the second straight game in North Country (they were defeated Friday at Plattsburgh). They were 20 of 58 from the field (34.5 percent), but that included just 2 of 13 from three-point range. In addition, the Blue Devils converted only 9 of 17 free throws.

Plattsburgh 65, Blue Devils 51
Game 16, Jan. 30 at Plattsburgh, N.Y.
-- The Blue Devils went cold for a two-minute stretch of the second half and it proved costly. A basket by Katie Estes cut the Plattsburgh lead, which had been as large as seven points, down to 45-43 with 8:20 remaining. The Blue Devils missed their next seven shots, including three free throws, and fell behind 50-43 with 5:41 left. Estes finished with 14 points to lead the Blue Devils in scoring. Heather Martin added 10 points while Amanda Neamon had nine points and nine rebounds.

Blue Devils 64, Plattsburgh 55
Game 15, Jan. 24 at Fredonia
-- Katie Estes had 19 points on 7 of 8 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds for the Blue Devils (7-8, 2-4), who were 4-2 on their six-game homestand. Heather Martin added 14 points and Amanda Neamon had 10 points and seven rebounds. Clare Crowley added eight points and eight rebounds.

Blue Devils 78, Potsdam 75
Game 14, Jan. 23 at Fredonia
-- Heather Martin hit a jumper with 10 seconds and blocked a shot at the other end as Fredonia State defeated Potsdam in a SUNYAC game. Katie Estes led the Blue Devils with 23 points and eight rebounds, while Clare Crowley finished with 18 and Amanda Neamon with 10. The see-saw struggle had six ties and 11 lead changes, the last one when Martin connected out of the left corner. Following a Potsdam timeout, Martin blocked Kim Reisman’s driving layup following a full-length drive up the right sideline. Neamon rebounded and was fouled with 0.08 seconds remaining. She made two free throws to seal Fredonia State’s seventh straight win over the Bears. The Bears took a 75-73 lead on two free throws by Amber Ryan, the second coming with 43 seconds left. A free throw by Estes with 27 seconds left cut the Potsdam lead to 75-74. Fredonia State forced a turnover and, following a timeout to set up the play, Martin hit her winning shot.

New Paltz 63, Blue Devils 54
Game 13, Jan. 20 at Fredonia
-- Oswego broke open a close game with 53 percent second-half shooting. Oswego outscored the Blue Devils in the second half, 51-21, after the teams battled through 21 lead changes in the first half. Katie Estes led Fredonia State with 17 points while Clare Crowley added 16. As a team, the Blue Devils hit on 56% of their shots (18 of 32) and connected on 11 of 15 free throws for a 73% accuracy rate in the first half. Crowley passed former teammate Kim Guenther on the school’s scoring list. Crowley, a senior, has 1,033 points; Guenther had 1,026. In addition, point guard Amy Bushen tied her personal single-game high of 10 assists. It was the third time she reached the total.

New Paltz 63, Blue Devils 54
Game 12, Jan. 17 at Fredonia
> -- Heather Martin led the Blue Devils with 18 points, while Clare Crowley finished with 11 in the SUNYAC setback at home. Down 25-17 at halftime, the Blue Devils came out the second half fired up and scored seven unanswered points to take a 26-25 lead as Martin nailed a three-pointer. Katie Estes upped the lead to three on a lay-up from Martin to give the Blue Devils nine straight points. New Paltz regained the lead until Fredonia’s Kristen Engel made her second of three consecutive shots at 6:33 to tie things up at 45-all. Kim Weigel then nailed a three-pointer for New Paltz to give them the lead for good.

Blue Devils 67, Medaille 43
Game 11, Jan. 13 at Fredonia
-- Clare Crowley reached the 1,000-point milestone Tuesday in a non-conference women’s basketball victory by the Fredonia State Blue Devils. Heather Martin led the Blue Devils (5-6) with 21 points and Crowley had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Needing four points at the start of the game, Crowley reached the milestone with a rebound basket while getting fouled at the 16:17 mark of the first half. She completed the three-point play before the game was stopped so Crowley could be recognized for becoming the fifth Blue Devil woman since 1986-87 to score at least 1,000 points. Also for the Blue Devils, who led at halftime 33-28, Katie Estes had 11 points and Amy Bushen was credited with nine assists.

Blue Devils 65, William Smith 59
Game 10, Jan. 10 at Fredonia
-- Four players scored in double figures Saturday as Fredonia State downed William Smith in a non-conference game at Steele Hall. Heather Martin led the way with 15 points, Clare Crowley and Amanda Neamon had 14 points each, and Katie Estes added 13 to go with 10 rebounds. Pria Young had 14 points and Anne Hellebush added 13 for William Smith (4-4). With family and friends in the crowd cheering her own, Crowley came up four points short in her bid to reach the 1,000-point plateau. In the meantime, Amy Bushen became Fredonia State's second most prolific playmaker with five more assists. She has 347 assists for the Blue Devils and trails only Sherri Ervin (449, 1988-90 and 91-92) on the all-time list.

Blue Devils 71, Hilbert 69
Game 9, Jan. 7 at Hamburg, N.Y.
-- Playing in her hometown, Hamburg, N.Y. native Amy Bushen made two free throws with 44 seconds remaining to lift the Blue Devils over Hilbert. Katie Estes scored 18 points and Heather Martin had 17 in the Blue Devils, who ended a five-game losing streak. Estes was 6 of 15 from the field while Martin was 8 of 8 from the line, had six rebounds, four assists, four steals and two blocked shots in 35 minutes. The rest of the Fredonia State scoring was balanced. Bushen and Amanda Neamon had nine points each, and Clare Crowley added eight. Bushen added six assists and five rebounds, while Neamon and Crowley grabbed eight rebounds each. Lynn Workman had 20 points for the Hawks (4-6).

Lycoming 60, Blue Devils 49
Game 8, Dec. 13 at Williamsport, Pa.
> -- The Blue Devils fell to 2-6 heading into the semester break with a 60-49 road loss to Lycoming University. Katie Estes had 21 points to lead the Blue Devils. She was 9 of 13 from the field and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds. Clare Crowley added nine points and seven rebounds. Emily DeMarco had 14 points to lead the Warriors.

Roberts Wesleyan 78, Blue Devils 61
Game 7, Dec. 11 at Fredonia
-- The Blue Devils (2-5) trailed 43-29 at the break and fell behind by as many as 22 points before finding their shooting touch and playing a nearly even second half with the Raiders (6-2). Heather Martin finished with 20 points to lead the Blue Devils. She also had five rebounds and four steals. Clare Crowley added 15 points and seven rebounds while Tina Homan had eight points and Amy Bushen seven assists. Judy Wright led RW with 22 points, six steals and five assists. Jen Stuczynski added 18 points in her homecoming game.

Penn State Behrend 56, Blue Devils 39
Game 6, Dec. 9 at Harborcreek, Pa.
-- Fredonia State scored on 15 points in the second half in a road loss to Penn State Behrend. The Blue Devils led 24-22 at halftime before hitting a cold spell to open the second half. Freshman Melissa Howlett led the scoring with 12 points, while junior Amanda Neamon grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. The Blue Devils outrebounded the Lions, 52-35.

Oneonta 59, Blue Devils 40
Game 5, Dec. 6 at Oneonta, N.Y.
-- Fredonia State committed 37 turnovers Saturday in a 59-40 SUNYAC loss. Katie Estes and Clare Crowley were bright spots for the Blue Devils. Estes had a double-double -- 10 points and 12 rebounds. Crowley had a team-high 13 points.

Cortland 100, Blue Devils 46
Game 4, Dec. 5 at Cortland, N.Y.
-- Sophomore guard Dani Maye scored a career-high 29 points and matched a career-best with nine rebounds and sophomore guard Kaylin VanDusen scored 23 points as Cortland defeated the Blue Devils. Junior forward Katie Estes was Fredonia's leading scorer with 11 points. Senior Clare Crowley scored eight points and led the Blue Devils with five rebounds.

Blue Devils 60, D'Youville 49
Game 3, Nov. 25 at Buffalo, N.Y.
-- Katie Estes had 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Blue Devils to a 60-49 non-conference victory over D'Youville College. Amanda Neamon had a solid performance with 14 rebounds, five points, four assists and four steals.

Blue Devils 76, Russell Sage 57
Game 2, Nov. 22 at Pittsford, N.Y.
-- Katie Estes had 24 points along with 13 rebounds to lead Fredonia State over Russell Sage in the consolation game of the Ramada Inn Invitational at St. John Fisher College. Both scoring and rebounding totals were career highs for Estes, a 5-11 junior forward who earned a starting spot after being used a reserve her first two seasons. Clare Crowley added 13 points and 13 rebounds, Heather Martin had 10 points and Amanda Neamon grabbed 15 rebounds for the Blue Devils (1-1). The Blue Devils had a 57-26 advantage on the boards.

Norwich 69, Blue Devils 57
Game 1, Nov. 21 at Pittsford, N.Y.
-- Heather Martin had 14 points and six rebounds in 29 minutes of duty to lead the Blue Devils in their season-opening loss in the Ramada Inn Invitational at St. John Fisher College. Clare Crowley added 13 points and seven rebounds. Melissa Howlett, playing in her first collegiate game, was 4 of 6 from behind the arc for 12 points.


HONORS

Katie Estes has been chosen SUNYAC Co-Player of the Week through games played Sun., Jan. 11.

A junior forward from Olean, Estes led the Blue Devils to a 2-0 week by averaging 15.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game.

She began the week with an 18-point, four-rebound effort in a 71-69 victory over Hilbert. She followed that up with a double-double -- 13 points, 10 rebounds -- in a 65-59 victory over William Smith.

Estes leads the Blue Devils (4-6) in scoring (12.6) and rebounding (7.9). She is also first in total steals (17) and second in blocked shots (10).

She shares the weekly honor with New Paltz freshman guard Kerri Kelty.

Heather Martin has been named the Player of the Week in the State University of New York Athletic Conference.

In addition, Martin received ECAC Upstate Regional honorable mention for the week ending Sun., Jan. 18.

The junior forward averaged 18.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals, and 2.0 blocks per game for the Blue Devils. She had 21 points, four rebounds, and sank three; three-point field goals in a 67-43 non-conference win over Medaille. Four days later, Martin followed up that effort with 18 points, four rebounds, and four steals in a 63-54 loss to conference rival SUNY New Paltz on Saturday.

The Allegany, N.Y. resident has scored in double figures in each of the Blue Devils’ last four games. She is third on the team in scoring (10.8), fourth in rebounding (4.2) and has made a team-best 14 three-point field goals.

Martin is the second Fredonia State player to be honored in as many weeks. Katie Estes shared the SUNYAC Player of the Week award with New Paltz’s Kerri Kelty last Monday.
