2003 Highlights

BLUE DEVILS FINISH TENTH AT REGIONALS
A 10th place finish in the NCAA Atlantic Regional meet Saturday brought a close to the Blue Devils' 2003 season. There were 30 full teams competing. Dani Pendl was 32nd overall with a time of 24:26 for 6,000 meters on the Letchworth State Park course. She was followed by Rachel McNamara (36th, 24:29.6), Amanda Dron (65th, 25:21.7, Ashley Tramp (80th, 25:39) and Jennifer Martin (115h, 26:17.8).

Nov. 8, NYSCTC Championship -- The Fredonia State women were 7th in the New York State Collegiate Track Conference cross country championship meet at Saratoga Springs State Park. Dani Pendl was the top female finished for Fredonia State -- 19th overall in 18:46 for 5,000 meters. Rounding out the top five were Rachel McNamara (25th), Amanda Dron (42nd), Jennifer Martin (79th) and Ashley Tramp (80th).

Oct. 25, SUNYAC Championships -- Dani Pendl was 15th overall Saturday in the SUNYAC Women's Cross Country Championship meet held at Fortin Park in Oneonta. A junior from Patchogue, N.Y., Pendl covered the 6,000-meter course in 24:42.4 -- good enough for Second Team All-SUNYAC honors. The Blue Devils had 163 points as a team, fifth overall of the 10 teams in the meet. Geneseo won the title for the fourth straight year. Cortland's Betsy Schultz won the race in 22:50.9

Oct. 15, Edinboro Rag Relays -- Rachel McNamara's aggregate time of 17:52 was best among the five Blue Devils competing at the Edinboro Rag Relays. McNamara had 1,500-meter splits of 6:00, 5:55 and 5:57. Her total time was 11th best among all runners, while her 5:55 split was 29th best in an event dominated by Edinboro University runners. Ashley Tramp was second among the Blue Devils with an 18:15 aggregate, while Dani Pendl was clocked in 18:16. McNamara, Tramp and Pendl combined for 54:22 -- fifth best in the meet. Also running for the Blue Devils were Elizabeth Luebbe (20:19) and Kimberly Barrett (26:14). The meet was run in relay fashion. One member of each three-member team ran 1,500 meters, followed by the second member, and then the third, until each member ran three legs.

Oct. 11, Slippery Rock Invitational -- Dani Pendl was 10th overall at the Slippery Rock Invitational. She as timed in 25:27 for 6,000 meters, three seconds ahead of teammate Rachel McNamara, who was 16th in 25:57. Rounding out the top seven for the Blue Devils were Ashley Tramp (17th, 26:15), Amanda Dron (19th, 26:32), Kristen Veltz (22nd, 27:07), Jennifer Martin (23rd, 27:08) and Stephanie Milks (26th, 27:55).

Oct. 4, Geneseo Invitational at Letchworth State Park -- Fredonia State placed three runners in the top 30 Saturday while finishing fourth of 18 teams. Junior Dani Pendl and freshman Rachel McNamara finished back-to-back, 21st and 22nd overall, while sophomore Kristen Veltz was 26th. Pendl was timed in 24:48.59, McNamara in 24:53.31 and Veltz in 25:06.71. Freshman Ashley Tramp finished 38th (25:19.07) and senior Amanda Dron 51st (25:33.99) to round out Fredonia State's top five. In addition, junior Jennifer Martin (25:40.26) and sophomore Alison Morgan (26:11.07) were sixth and seventh, respectively, for the Blue Devils.

Sept. 27, Fredonia State Invitational on campus -- Steady rains began just prior to the start and persisted throughout Fredonia State's victory over three others teams at the only home meet of the season -- the Fredonia State Invitational. Alfred State’s Katherine Chawner was the top finisher in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 20:43. A group of Blue Devils runners finished fourth through ninth, respectively: Dani Pendl (20:56), Morgan Burrows (21:20), Amanda Dron (21:22), Jennifer Martin (21:36), and Kristen Veltz (21:38). The Blue Devils outpointed Alfred State, William Smith College and Keuka College.

Sept. 20, Allegheny College Invitational at Meadville Pa. -- Dani Pendl, a junior from Patchogue, was the first Fredonia State finisher Sept. 20 at the Allegheny College Invitational. Pendl crossed the line 16th overall clocked at 24:48, with a per mile average of 6:40. The Blue Devils were seventh as a team. Fifteen teams competed. Other top five runners were senior Amanda Dron at 21st (25:13), junior Jennifer Martin at 34th (26:02), sophomore Alison Morgan at 53rd (27:24) and junior Morgan Burrows at 55th (27:31). Also finishing was junior Lindsey Smith at 76th.

Sept. 13, Rochester Triangular Meet -- Rachel McNamara was fourth overall -- and the first Fredonia State finisher -- in the University of Rochester's home triangular meet at Genesee Valley Park. A freshman from Lakeview, N.Y. and Nardin Academy, McNamara was timed in 20:24 over the 5,000-meter distance. That averaged out to a pace of 6:35 per mile. Filling out Fredonia State's top five were Jennifer Martin (8th, 21:04), Ashley Tramp (11th, 21:15), Amanda Dron (12th, 21:22) and Jennifer Sime (14th, 21:36). The Blue Devils were third in the team standings with 49 points. U of R won the event with 29 points, and RIT had 45.

Sept. 6, Bill Sudeck Classic at Case Western Reserve -- The Blue Devils finished second in a 14-team field at the team's season-opening meet. Morgan Burrows (Lockwood/Waverly) was 12th overall in a time of 20:34 for five kilometers. Kristen Veltz (Brockport) was 15th in 21:00, Rachel McNamara (Lakeview/Nardin) 17th in 21:07, Jennifer Martin (Buffalo/Mt. Mercy Academy) 27th in 21:32 and Dani Pendl (Patchogue) 27th in 21:36.
