Head Coach Chris Case

Chris Case

Chris Case has been the head women's soccer coach at Fredonia State for six seasons. He and his teams continue to earn notice from the coaching community in the State University of New York Athletic Conference.

In 2007, the Devils earned a berth into the ECAC Tournament. After playing to a 0-0 double-overtime tie, the Devils advanced to the second round with 4-3 advantage in penalty kicks. They would bow out to eventual ECAC Champion Nazareth in a 1-0 overtime loss. It was the team's second appearance in the ECAC Tournament in three years.

Case began his coaching career in 2002 as the Blue Devils posted a 9-8-2 mark, best in the program since 1994. The result was an invitation to the New York State Women's Collegiate Athletic Association tournament, the program’s first post-season competition since the 1994 season. Case was chosen 2003 SUNYAC Women's Soccer Coach of the Year in only his second year at the helm after guiding the Blue Devils to their first SUNYAC Tournament appearance in the 18-year history of the program.

The Blue Devils took it a step further in 2005. They were back in the SUNYAC Tournament again -- and on the winning side. A dramatic 2-1 home win over Plattsburgh was the first SUNYAC Tournament win in the 20-year history of Blue Devil women's soccer. The Blue Devils returned to the conference tournament in 2006 with a road loss at Geneseo.

Following their SUNYAC ouster with a semifinal loss to Oneonta in 2005, the Blue Devils accepted an invitation to the ECAC Upstate Tournament. They parlayed their second chance into a 2-1 road win over New Paltz. A season-ending loss followed, but not before Case had guided his team to an 11-7-1 mark, including a 6-3-1 record during the SUNYAC regular season. The six conference wins are a single-season school record.

Each subsequent season represents another rung on the ladder which has been a steady climb since Case took over as head coach in 2002. His teams have posted a composite 57-47-14 record, which makes him the winningest women's soccer coach in school history in wins and the only one of the five Blue Devil coaches with a winning percentage (.548) above the break-even mark. His .509 SUNYAC winning percentage (regular-season only) is over .200 percentage points better than the next closest Blue Devil coach.

Looking back:

In his debut season of 2002, Case guided the team to a 9-8-2 mark and the team's first post-season tournament of any kind since 1994.

The following season, 2003, marked only the third time in the history of the program the Blue Devils won as many as 11 games in a season. Combined with the 2002 season, Case guided the team to back-to-back winning seasons after seven straight seasons finishing at .500 or below.

Before he became head coach, Case served a one-year apprenticeship as Blue Devil women's assistant coach. At the time, he was fresh from his 2001 Fredonia State graduation. A former Blue Devil goalkeeper, he earned numerous honors and holds team goalkeeping records. He was also a dean’s list student and made the SUNYAC All-Academic Team.

As a sophomore, he helped the Blue Devils win the 1998 SUNYAC and the ECAC Northeast championship titles and was subsequently named MVP of the ECAC tournament. He was a member of the 1999 Four Points Sheraton All-Tournament Team and the All SUNYAC Second Team.

In his senior year, Case was selected as a SUNYAC Player of the Week, All SUNYAC First Team and All Region Second Team. He was chosen as a co-captain both his junior and senior seasons.

A native of Fairport, N.Y., Case was All County and All Greater Rochester in high school. He once served as a counselor at the Fairport youth soccer camp. He also designed and coordinated training sessions for the Jamestown girls soccer program and also served as a summer playground counselor for Perinton Parks and Recreation.

In the summers of 2005 and 2006, Case was the starting goalkeeper for the gold-medal winning Western team in the men's open soccer division of the Empire State Games. Both teams were coached by Blue Devil men's soccer coach P.J. Gondek.
