Emmett Till Exhibit
Opening Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 4 p.m. in Daniel A. Reed Library
Emmett Till is the 14-year old African American boy from Chicago who was killed in August 1955, while visiting family in Mississippi, after allegedly whistling at a white woman. Till's murder occurred a year after Brown v. Board of Education, and a few months after Rosa Parks' act of refusal sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott. The two murderers were acquitted by an all white jury in over an hour. The murder of Emmett Til was a particularly shameful event in the history of America. Please join us for the opening of this important exhibit on Feb. 3, at 4 p.m. in the Daniel A Reed Library. Opening remarks will be given by Dr. Sandra Liggins of the Department of English. The exhibit will be on display until February 27.
This exhibit was made possible through the sponsorship of Carnahan-Jackson Humanities Fund, the Faculty-Student Association and the Community Outreach Partnership Center.

"To Kill a Mockingbird Fitness Plan: Walking with Atticus Finch"
Monday, Feb. 23, Noon - 1 p.m.
Reed Library 1st Floor Conference Room with Randy Gadikian, Director of Library Services, and Beez Schell, director, Professional Development Center
Did walking eight-miles-per-day/five-days-per-week provide Atticus with enough exercise to maintain his health? What physical, psychological, and social benefits did Atticus derive from walking and avoiding desserts? What other exercises should he have done to maintain and improve his health? In this workshop we will discuss the various benefits of walking (and other exercises) and offer guidelines for starting a walking regime. We will demonstrate the correct way to use a pedometer, so bring your pedometer (if you have one) or sign up early as we have pedometers available for the group.
