Accounting Society

Mission:

The mission of the Accounting Society shall be to support and promote interest in the accounting profession.

Speaker Point Events:

The Accounting Society hosts several Speaker Point Events every semester, giving students an opportunity to learn something new while earning extra credit points for classes! At these events you will hear from professionals about the reality of accounting careers as well as tips to help you succeed.

Current information about these events can be found on our Instagram Page, @fredaccountingsociety

Club Events and Fundraisers:

Part of our mission is to educate students who have an interest in accounting.

We host multiple events throughout each semester to bring students together and promote the profession. We host anything from Accounting Kahoot Tournaments to Bowling Nights!

We also host several fundraisers to help raise money for these events. Some of our recent fundraisers included Fowlers Chocolate Bars and Krispy Kreme Donuts!

Important Activities

VITA: The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which began in 1981, is co-sponsored by the Accounting Society with the Internal Revenue Service. Volunteers must complete online training on federal and NYS tax return preparation in order to help the elderly and low-income residents of the City of Dunkirk electronically file their federal and state income tax returns.

Business Etiquette Dinner: The Annual Business Etiquette Dinner, which began in 1991, teaches attendees the appropriate behavior required in a social setting. Each year the Leadership Corp students instruct attendees on such topics as appropriate behavior and discussion topics at the cocktail hour, dinner, and other social engagements.

Membership Requirements:

Meeting Attendance: Anyone who attends more than one-half of the general meetings during a semester qualifies as an Accounting Society member.
OR
VITA Volunteer: Any VITA volunteer qualifies as an Accounting Society member.
OR
Leadership Position: Anyone who takes on a leadership role by coordinating an Accounting Society event (e.g., VITA, Accounting Jeopardy Tournament, Etiquette Dinner, etc.) or by serving as an officer or chair is automatically qualified as an Accounting Society member.
