What degree will I obtain through this program?

Graduates of the Music Industry program will obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a Music Industry concentration.



I am very interested in a career in the music industry, but I have no experience as a musician. Does this program require me to have that experience?

No prior musical experience is needed. However, students are required to take two semesters of music lessons on an instrument of their choice, as well as two semesters of a music ensemble as part of the program’s curriculum.



How does this program differ from other schools? How does it compare to other schools?

The State University of New York at Fredonia is an accredited liberal arts university. Students will graduate from our university with a bachelor’s degree, not a certificate. We focus on students receiving an education in different areas such as Accounting, Economics, Statistics, and Computer Science in addition to the core Music Industry courses.



Do you have to audition to get in to the Music Industry Program?

No audition is required to get into the program. A Music Industry major may also choose to be Music minor. No audition is necessary for the Music minor as well. For more information, click here to see the requirements of the music minor program.

Does Fredonia provide internship opportunities for students within the Music Industry Program?

Fredonia does its best to provide each student with a relevant and convenient internship that corresponds with the student’s specific interests and field of study. Internships are an integral part of the program and a graduation requirement.



What can I do with a degree in Music Industry?

This program trains students in multiple aspects of the Music Industry, as well as those of the business world. A music industry graduate will have multiple skills and extensive knowledge that will aid in finding a successful career of their choice.



Does SUNY Fredonia have an active music community?

Fredonia’s campus has a diverse and active music community. The Music Industry Club hosts special events such as the Battle of the New Bands and the Life is Art festival. There are multiple ensembles and vocal groups for students that enjoy performing different styles of music. SUNY Fredonia also has two radio stations, a television station, and a student run newspaper for those interested in the mass media aspect of music industry.

In Mason Hall, the home of the Music Department, students will find multiple practice rooms, each containing a piano, a music stand, and a mirror. The hall also has two recital halls, as well as several computer labs with music editing software.
