Department or Program: Arts Administration

Goals

1.       Develop practical skills and knowledge through on and off campus experiential learning

2.   Provide, through students' study in other departments, a rounded general education

3.       Provide individualized academic and career guidance

G.C.P. Correlation

1.       The Arts Administration program, which emphasizes the development of practical skills and knowledge, is meant to be complimentary to the G.C.P.

Means of Assessment

1.       As this program typically graduates only one or two students per year, assessment is done by staying in touch with most graduates for at least three to five years after graduation.

2.       A formal survey of alumni was done in 1996.

Outcomes

1.       Approximately 80% of graduates go on to entry level work in arts management or a closely related field. Two recent graduates have been accepted to their first choice graduate program and have been successful in graduate school. Alumni speak highly of the value of their experiential learning opportunities in the program.

Uses

1.   Validation of the importance of experiential learning

2.       Recognition of the need for an additional staff person to allow more time for interaction of staff and students
