Goals

 

1.   Acquire a broad knowledge of the field

2.   Develop visual and aural perceptions related to theatre performance

3.       Develop structured approaches to the use of language in play writing and the resultant   

script

4.       Make informed assessments of quality in works of theatre

 

G.C. P. Correlation

 

1.       Writing: students write analyses of plays, critical papers of theatrical

      performances and research papers on theatrical topics.

2.   Reading: analysis of dramatic literature is fundamental to the discipline

3.   Reflexive Thinking: emphasis on individual journals, conversations, and advising

5.       Socioethical Understanding: collaborative research and technical support projects

 

Means of Assessment

 

1.   First year student entering paper

2.   Sophomore year evaluation by faculty

3.       Participation each semester in some aspect of play production evaluated by faculty 

(theatre practice)

4.       Standard form being developed to evaluate each student participating in a role or

prominent technical position

5.       Senior Seminar with exit paper (not yet in place)

 

Outcomes

 

A series of steps has been started (freshmen class of 1998) which will help to assess the program in the future.

--written paper upon entrance and near exit of student

--specific goals determined by the student and discussed with advisors

--Observations on progress by the faculty discussed with student

--projects connected with classroom and production exercises

--senior seminar course to be added to curriculum
