Office of Academic
Advising- - Assessment for Self-Improvement of Unit
Mission
Two
quotes from our Vision Statement are of major importance to those of us in the
Office of Academic Advising. The first, "our commitment to high standards
for our students and to individual learning and development will continue to
find expression in a college-wide emphasis on student-centered
teaching and advising," speaks to our main objective - to
continually emphasize to all advisors on campus that advising is individualized
teaching. The second,. that students will "see themselves as self
respecting men and women responsible for the consequences of their
choices," speaks to another important goal - helping students to
recognize that whatever the circumstances of their individual stories, they are
ultimately responsible for the choices they make concerning their educational
objectives while attending Fredonia.
Goals
1. To
improve parent satisfaction of academic affairs portion of summer orientation
program.
2. To
improve the retention of General Studies (undeclared) students from freshman to
sophomore year.
Measures of Goals
1. Expansion
of usual yearly survey regarding specifics of academic affairs offerings
for
parents.
2. Collection
of academic probation data of General Studies students through office of
academic
advisement.
Results
1. First collection of data specific to
academic affairs will take place summer 1999.
3. Beginning
with Fall 1998 freshmen cohort, results of academic standings will be
analyzed
in Fall 1999.
Feedback into the unit
1. If
parent satisfaction suggests areas for improvement post-summer 1999, such
will be undertaken where feasible and given overall objectives of program.
2. Appropriate
programs such as Probation Peer Advisors Training, to name one, will be
implemented
if retention of General Studies sophomores is less that 75% in the Fall of
1999.
