The SUNY Fredonia Student Learning Assessment Committee is made up of representatives from Academic Affairs and Student Affairs. Our purpose is to assist academic departments and units across campus with their efforts to improve and assess student learning, and implement the campus's new baccalaureate learning goals.
Committee Goals:
- Sustain and improve our student learning assessment system
- Increase faculty buy-in and trust in assessment of student learning outcomes
- Support collaborative consultation between faculty, professional staff, and administration
- Promote assessment of student learning outcomes as a means of continuous improvement
Committee Tasks:
- Create a blueprint for student learning assessment processes, to increase transparency and awareness of our campus assessment system;
- Compile, review, and advise on student learning assessment documents (including assessment plans, reports, and feedback forms; decision-making matrices and action plans; curriculum maps; self-study and external review documents, etc.), to provide evidence of and support sustainable assessment in the curriculum and co-curriculum;
- Collect and review syllabi to assure inclusion of departmental, general education, and baccalaureate learning outcomes;
- Consult on and support periodic review process for academic programs;
- Consult with and support the General Education Program on its assessment plan and cycle;
- Advise on and support alignment of departmental and unit learning outcomes with baccalaureate goals;
- Support accreditation efforts of individual departments and units;
- Supply assessment information for MSCHE reports and self-studies;
- Address implementation of non-binding recommendations from Middle States reports;
- Articulate and oversee guidelines for assessment at SUNY Fredonia;
- Maintain assessment information on the website;
- Provide progress reports to University Senate;
- Advise provost and collaborate with IRPA on planning workshops on student learning outcomes assessment.
