The State University of New York College at Fredonia has recently created an Office of Campus Assessment. The role of the Director will
be to assist departments and offices as they develop various assessment
initiatives. The goal will be to make assessment an integral part of the campus culture and to establish minimum standards for assessment practices. This will enable the campus to make informed decesions when engaging in strategic planning for the future.
An important function of this Office will be the assessment of student learning outcomes. This includes learning both in and out of the classroom. Data will be collected from various sources including teachers, alumni, employers, and the students themselves. The impact of new teaching strategies on the developement of student skills and competencies will be systematically analyzed in an effort to maximize the student learning experience.
