Under the supervision of Dr. Philip Kumler,
Tim is utilizing the LC-MS (liquid chromatography- mass spectroscopy) instrument
to study resveratrol concentration in Concord grapes. Resveratrol is an anti-
oxidant, known for its anti-carcinogenic properties and helpful to humans for
cardiovascular health. Tim is a biochemistry major and native Fredonian who
lives on a 21-acre grape farm, and is employed at the Loyal Oak Greenhouse
during breaks and summers, so his choice in research with grapes is natural.
He is also working with Terry Bates at the Cornell Extension lab in Fredonia.
Last semester Tim worked with Gayle Gawlik on the HPLC (high performance liquid
chromatography) to purify the peptide Gayle had been synthesizing. Tim is
interested in bio/organic chemistry and would like to pursue a career in the
agricultural or food industry.
