Dale's research is the thermal analysis of ink
resins. With samples provided by the local printing ink manufacturer CPS, Dale
uses the differential scanning calorimeter, the thermal gravimetric analyzer and
the thermal mechanical analyzer to measure the softening temperatures and the
Tll of the inks. The Tll (liquid-liquid transition
temperature) is the phase between the semi-pliable and completely fluid states.
These characteristics are important for the printing industry for storing and
transporting purposes. This is Dale's first semester of research, after entering
Fredonia as a 3-1-3 student from Dunkirk High School and earning the 2003
Freshman Chemistry award. Dale also works for ITS (Information Technology
Services) on campus, and is involved in Internet networking and installing
wireless systems.
