In 2004, Nicolette spent the summer
in a research lab in Massachusetts at Boston University. Dr. John Porco
supervised Nicolette as she worked on synthesizing chalcones and flavonoids
which were to be ultimately used in the total synthesis of a potential HIV
drug. This coming summer, Nicolette is looking to complement her chemistry
experience with a biological one. She has applied for a summer internship
at the Whitney Laboratory in St. Augustine, Florida, where she will work
for Dr. Mikhail Matz studying the evolution of GFP (green fluorescent protein) found
in jellyfish and corals. Nicolette is a junior biochemistry major in a chemistry
track and her main interests are genetics and microbiology.
