During the Spring 2004 semester, Mr. Corey Ptak,
a junior environmental sciences major, began working under the direction of Dr. Sherri
Mason. Corey is working on pieces of an overall project which intends to address the
transport and fate of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) on a regional scale.
His first endeavor towards this overall research project is the development of a
photochemical mechanism for the gas-phase atmospheric degradation of PAH species
using published results from various research groups across the nation. He then
will turn his attention to refining the grid resolution of the regional model (the
EPA Models-3/CMAQ) using GIS techniques and emission inventories from various public
sources.
